I have an older sister. She is very smart, and was recognized by almost every teacher and student as one of top students. I was also a pretty good student too, but was not as good as her. Although many teachers used to draw an invidious comparison between us, I did not hate her at all, but rather respected her even more because I knew that all her achievements came from her hard-workings. But I started having low self-esteem once I realized that I never be just like her no matter how hard I try. As a result, i ended up making a hasty conclusion of myself of being not important. Low self-esteem is self-destructive. Without self-esteem, we will lack of beliefs that we deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. Also, when self-esteem is not high enough, we will not able to express our thoughts and opinions to avoid disagreement, which does not allow other to know you better, resulting in interpersonal conflicts in the future. Furthermore, with a healthy self-esteem, we become able to realize and accept both our weakness and strengths. First, I started treating everyone in my class in a way that I would like to be treated. For instance, I started greeting all my classmates by name and holding eye contact, letting them know that I can be assertive when needed. Also, I have been actively participating in group activity and project as a member by expressing my own opinions and thoughts.
