Did anything surprise you? What?
I am amazed even more on how those theorists have work hard and spent a lot of time to describe their theories in an understandable composition that ease our work by connecting our thinking
The first book review of Chicken Soup for the Nurse’s soul by Jack Canfield et al was written by Brenda Cook in the scholarly journal AORN Journal. This review’s argument is that the book contains stories that strengthen and refreshes nurse experts’ spirits. Every story is a very easy and short read. It reminds nurses the human side of their job preventing them from getting lost with the technology side.…
Apply Orem’s Self-Care Framework to Advanced Practice Nursing. The Orem Self-Care Framework which is also known as the Self-Care Deficit Theory helps the nurse practitioner assist clients in developing an environment that is supportive and promotes self-care and being self-reliant as a goal by identifying deficits in the patient’s ability to maintain their own health. The nurse practitioner can apply Orem’s Self-Care Theory to help clients who have chronic conditions identify their self-care deficits and behaviors to take on a more active role in being their own self-care agent especially if they currently live with a supportive family or spouse before the need may seem to be necessary. With the use of the self-Care Manual for Patients,…
She attributes her theory’s transformation in recent times on principles from many theorists such as Newman, Rogers, Nightingale, Peplau, Leininger, Henderson, and the work of nursing philosopher Gadow (Alligood, 2014, p.…
List the concept you have chosen and a theory using this concept [use the list of concepts to get you started] My concept is empowerment. I will focus on empowering elderly adults living alone in the community to live quality life by using both internal and external environment to meet their health goals. Myra Levine conservation theory supports my concept. In her theory, individual’s energy is conserved to help them meet their goals with the least effort possible (McEwen & Wills, 2014). The theory includes the principle of conservation of: energy, structural integrity, personal integrity, and social integrity, all of which are necessary in helping elderly achieve quality life.…

Peplau’s Interpersonal Theory and Orem’s Self-Care Model Nursing theories provide structure and guidelines for nursing practice and education. Two of the main theories used today were created by Hildegard Peplau and Dorothea Orem, and have had a large impact on the nursing community. These theories have created many new and innovative ways of looking at the care of patients, and have led to more patient centered care as opposed to disease centered. . Peplau’s interpersonal theory and Orem’s self-care model have many similarities and differences in their framework and main concepts, as well as in their use of the four metaparadigms and the generalizability of their theories.…
NUR210 Scholarly Paper: Jean Watson Jean Watson stated, “Caring is the essence nursing.” (Cara, 2005). This is not only Watson’s view of nursing, but it is also my own personal opinion as well. Nursing to me, not only involves the physical care of the person in the hospital, but also the emotional growth and healing along with the restoration of hope that often happens throughout the duration of one’s hospital stay. This can be achieved by using the four main concepts of nursing which include person, environment, health, and finally, nursing.…
Theories give a methodical interpretation of the phenomenon in question. In a fast-changing healthcare system, the nursing practice needs a solid foundation to help deal with uncertainty among healthcare workers. Nursing theories create a foundation on which to base nursing practice. This is because theory facilitates reasoning, decision making and critical thinking which strengthens the nursing profession (Black, 2014). According to Masters (2015), theories can also be explanatory, descriptive, predictive regulatory in nature.…
When discussing the health care systems, it is essential to identify and confront any possible biases or preconceived connotations that one may have toward a specific sex/race/religion. The goal of taking this Cultural Diversity class is to be able to consider yourself culturally competent. Cultural Competence in healthcare includes knowledge, skills, and attitudes that all assist in the quality of care that is provided among different cultures. It is normal to have a bias toward a specific category of people, however, it is crucial that you are self aware of this bias so that you can adjust the way you deliver care to your patient. One of the key factors in becoming culturally competent is self awareness.…
According to Polit and Henderson, “Self-care is the practice of activities that individuals initiate and perform on their own behalf in maintaining life, health, and well-being. Each individual has the ability to perform self-care, and are responsible for their own health and the health of their dependents” (Cardinal Stritch University Library, 2011). In Dorethea Orem’s Self-Care theory, the author has implied that it is the nurses’ role to help maintain an adequate and effective level of self-care among their patients. This framework has become a foundation for middle range theories that are related to issues like patient autonomy, patient-directed care and patient’s development of self-care skills (Masters, 2011). However, Orem’s theory could also be applied to nurses.…
Mikqenya, Your questions are very insight, and challenging. Using Pender theory, I would initially use the support of family, to support patients’ new behavior. As APN you can based future action on patients new behavior, self-initiated reconfiguration of a person, environment interactive patterns is essential for behavioral change (Butts, Rich 2018). Nurses should find what health promotion means, to the non-complaint patient and work, to improved patient perception of health promotion.…
Dorothea E. Orem committed her life to making and building up a theoretical structure to enhance nursing practice (Smith & Parker, 2015). Orem’s theory is built on the premise that an individual has the capacity, right, and duty to look after oneself. She was able to see care from the patient’s point of view where patients give self-care with different levels of help from health professionals. The crucial premise of her theory is that each individual has the ability to take care of their wellbeing and the wellbeing of others. She discussed four aspects of self-care, which includes theory of self-care, theory of dependent care, theory of self-care deficit and theory of nursing systems.…
Dorothea Orem’s Self-Care Nursing Philosophy encourages patient autonomy and gives patients a voice. It provides nurses with a solid foundation to give patients’ self-sufficiency and control in caring for themselves. Developing a personal nursing philosophy increases self-confidence, enhances critical thinking and provides a solid foundation for professional nursing practice. Following a personal nursing philosophy is not only a reminder why we chose this profession, but also provides direction and…
Introduction Self Care and affirmation is an area which is a large part of Gods plan for our lives it is not just spiritual but is a combination of both spiritual and physical disciplines such as reading the word, physical exercise and healthy eating just to name a few. Reading the Bible and other Christian literature helps Christians become their true selves through inner transformation (Shore 2013). A Christian without or devoid of the knowledge and understanding of just how God loves them is ill equipped to become their true selves and face life’s challenges with success. Without such knowledge and understanding it is not possible to be the encouragement and blessing that God has intended a Christian. Correct Self Care is not an act of narcissism but rather aids to affirm oneself and others and must be an intentional daily practice.…
This self-care assignment has more meaning to me now than it would have a year ago. Not that I would have approached this less seriously back then, but since I have started graduate school I have realized that I am busier now than ever. In the past, my mantra was to work, whether it was academics or one of my jobs, until the task was complete. I have always taken pride in my work ethic but I also think that I can’t do the things that I used to do at the pace that I was doing things in.…
