What’s factors played significant that can a role to individual verses a group or family treatment pertain to substance abuse? When discovering the debate with SAMHSA and the Advocacy group it brought awareness and insight of the separate services both entities offered. The National Advisory Council implement a resolution endorsing that the SAMHSA inspire a wide range of supporting services to make a dual diagnosis. Being identified as joint entities can offer a more effective treatment to the populace at once.…
Case Conceptualization Case conceptualization is typically initiated by the identification of the client’s problem. CBT’s view is that the problem lies within maladaptive cognitive processes (e.g. cognitive distortions and destructive, often times inaccurate, core beliefs) that lead to problematic behavioral outcomes. Once the problem has been identified, the etiology of the problem is explored. Within CBT the assumption is that learned cognitive constructs for which the client’s experiences are viewed through cause and maintain the results (e.g. anxiety, depression, etc.) of the client’s problems. Once this etiology has been mapped, appropriate CBT techniques and strategies can be selected and a therapeutic plan can be created.…
In chapter 3, what really grab my attention is learning the “Three V’s + B.” I felt that two main concern that myself had trouble with were Visual/Eyes contact and Body language. Visual/eyes contact means that a counselor is giving a client visual/eyes contact at level where client is most comfortable and not feel threaten. In my culture we do not give eyes contact to someone that is older or who is an authority figures. Being a counselor eyes contact is very important, where it can break a relationship between a client and a counselor. Now I had to learn to be able to give not just my client…
Chrissy, 1. Your response to this question was spot on. I agree that clients shield themselves from problems by avoiding their participation in the problem. Our response to problems is to blame others and move focus off our mistake. From the beginning of sin in this world, mankind has been blaming others instead of owning our mistakes.…

Clinical Skill: After taking this counseling class I believe I have learned a lot about how I don’t think I would be the best-fit person to counsel someone and their problems. I don’t think I mastered any particular skills this semester, but I can say my skills got better. The first counseling skill that I got better with is open-ended questions.…
This week our self-awareness papers were over chapter 4 and 5. They were about how to take notes, different ways to write notes, and how to study effectively for a test. My topic I chose to write about is how to take notes; and different ways to take notes. I learned the three steps to taking notes, how to prepare yourself before class so you’re focused and ready to take notes. All these are important for each student to know.…
The aim of this essay is to explore two counselling theories or theorists in depth, comparing and contrasting their background, theory of personality, theory of problems in living and theory of change. It is also necessary to assess their strengths and weaknesses as you see them and to evaluate which counselling situation that they would be most appropriate for. The two theories that I am going to discuss are the humanistic approach of person-centred therapy and the cognitive behavioural therapy approach of cognitive therapy. Carl Rogers agreed with the same main assumptions as Abraham Maslow but added that in order for a person to progress successfully they would require an environment that also gives genuineness, acceptance and empathy. He…
Response Assignment 3 The self and our perception of others are thoughts that are constantly flowing through our minds subconsciously. Prior to reading the readings for the week, I did not realize the impact that our self-perception had on our daily lives and interactions. After recalling some of my instances, I realized that the interpretations that I have regarding my self-worth might not have been the most accurate. In this response, the two examples that I have chosen are events that either directly or indirectly relates to my days in high school.…
Throughout my life I often caught myself thinking, “I wish someone would listen!” “Do they even know what listening is?” More so, “do they know what it takes to be an active listener?” Before entering Counseling Theory and Process, I was exceedingly confident in my ability to be an active listener, hence my interest in becoming a counselor, little did I know, there was an abundant amount of information to be learned.…
Your environment creates a person’s values through a complex evolution of culture, interactions with others, life experiences and world views. As we grow and develop, life forms our values through a lifetime’s worth of experiences. As a counseling student, counselors shouldn’t force their values onto others. When working clients, you have to allow them to make their own decisions. As stated in the Ethical Code of Standards A., “counselors must be aware of their own values, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors and how these apply in it a diverse society”…

The counselor demonstrated good listening skills for she would reflect back and summarize what the client was telling her, in more than one occasion. The counselor asked more open-ended questions than close-ended questions. This allowed the client to talk a little more. The counselor also uses words like ‘ok’ and ‘yes’ to let the client know that she is actively listening. When it came to making goals or thinking of ideas to change behaviors, the counselor did a good job guiding the client.…
