The majority of readings we’ve analyzed and discussed in Intro to Literature have had a lot to do with the protagonist’s identity and where they think they belong in the societies they’re living in. Being self-aware is being able to comprehend your emotions, motives and feelings and express them mindfully. It is not a simple task, nor is it something that many people think or care about, but throughout each of the novels we have read in class, it is evident that the characters have some degree of self-awareness that lead them to pursue whatever it is that they do. This self-awareness isn’t a major key in the development of the plot, per say, but it is integral to the development of the characters. Self-awareness …show more content…
Throughout the plot, characters such as Miranda, Ariel, Caliban and others go through a change within themselves and surroundings that results in a new outlook on their futures. The PTSD influences his abilities to be who he was before going to the war so he has to find a way to conform into a person that can settle. The thing about Frank, though, is that he finds it challenging to conform and stick to old ways. He is constantly on the move to look for where he can fit into next that there never really is a place that he claims as his own or his home. It’s interesting to think about his self awareness. Is he so self aware that he realizes that no place will ever fit him the way he wants to or is his self awareness lacking in that he can’t find it in himself to question whether or not he is happy or content with where he is in his
