Self-Evaluation and Affect for Differing Gender Pairs With the added pressure to succeed in the world today, individuals have a vested interest to perform at their best and strive to outperform the increasing competition, however, this can lead to critical evaluations when a desired outcome is not achieved. The self-Evaluation Maintenance (SEM) Model postulates that self-evaluation is highly impacted by relationships with others and individuals behave in a way that will maintain or heighten self-evaluation (Tesser, Millar, & Moore, 1988). The SEM model suggests self-evaluation can result in two outcomes: the reflection process and the comparison process (Tesser et al., 1988). These processes are influenced by closeness of another individual,…

Ever since I was little, I have dreamt of become an engineer… That is the response I heard from most of my peers at the multiple universities I have attended, but it is not something I can truthfully say. To be honest, I had no clue what the future held for me as a child, and I spent years chasing what I thought was right for me only to find out it wasn’t what I was passionate about. You see, I served in the military for nine years working as a data analyst before I made the decision to get out and pursue an engineering career. During that ninth year, I started questioning whether I had chosen the right profession.…

Holland’s theory is based on the idea that career choices are an expression of personality. Holland’s theory assumes that individuals can be categorized into a combination of six personality types: realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, or conventional; environments can also fit into one of these six types. Each personality and environment type have themes related to interests, work activities, potential skills, and values. Based on this, Holland theorizes that individuals of an occupation will have similar personalities and like similar work environments. In addition, Holland assumes that people search for environments that best fit them in expressing their skills and meeting their needs.…

Self Assessment Analysis: Listening One major communication flaw of mine is my inability to listen to others at times. The idiom, “you have one mouth and two ears, so you should listen twice as much as you talk,” makes sense. However, it has been hard to implement this idea in my life. I have noticed in conversations that I sometimes “check out” and start thinking about other things, completely ignoring the person talking.…

Through my self-assessments, I had the opportunity to learn more about my learning styles. I learned that I’m more of a reflective learner than an active learner. I have some preference for learning intuitively over sensing, and I have a greater predilection for visual learning over verbal learning. I also have marginal to no preference for sequential or global learning. All of these results helped me figure out what method of learning works best for me.…

Research Paper Like most people, OK, I do not know most people, but go along with me; I was unsure what to do when I left high school. That was the case before I actually started to do research on my career and college choices. If you want to achieve your goals for a life after high school, you would have to go over and beyond if you want to get there. This is part of the message that Marlon Wayans has spoken, “Success is not a destination, but the road that you 're on. Being successful means that you 're working hard and walking your walk every day.…

Final Exam: Self Evaluation Essay I personally can say that I have seen an improvement in my writing since my initial evaluation in the middle of the semester. During my first evaluation I was very confused with many of the general concepts the class held and it reflected in my writing. Answering the questions presented in the midterm evaluation and reviewing my first writing assignment Meta commentary pushed me to try to grasp a better understanding of assignments and ask for more helpful feedback that would benefit me in developing writing especially in the concept of methods and organization.
