The self-assessment test is a good first step in understanding what your strengths and weaknesses are. (Bethel University, 2014) This tool is a good way of helping you discover what you are good at and what you may need to work on. I also believe that this is a good tool to help you identify things that your interested in that could lead to a career. While this tool is helpful, I also feel that it can be over-analyzed. After reading Mike Bunn’s “How to Read Like a Writer,” I revisited my directed self-placement essay while asking myself the many questions Bunn recommends to ask oneself when “reading like a writer.” In doing so, I was able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses I possess as a writer, and therefore know where I need to grow the most as a writer. One of my greatest strengths as a writer is knowing my audience and composing my writing accordingly. I am aware that when my audience is a teacher who will be reading and grading plenty of the same essays to include original ideas and arguments; it gets boring reading the same type of paper and ideas over and over. Along with my well thought out ideas and arguments, I also credit myself with the ability of using appropriate evidence from credible sources that support my claims.…

Keeping my three personal and professional goals realistic, I would have to say a personal goal is to finish school at SNHU with a 3.0 GPA or above. I think a way for me to accomplish this goal is to stay focused on the tasks at hand, maintain a good relationship with my advisors and to utilize some of the tutoring options that are available to me as a student. Another personal goal is to work on myself, mentally. I cannot be a good mom or wife when I have the stress, anxiety and depression that I do. A way to help accomplish this goal is to not only start speaking with a psychiatrist (first appointment is August 4th) but to also have my thyroid checked.…

When I was a child when someone asked me, "What are you going to be when you grow up?" My answer was always, "I am going to be a nurse. " When I attended college the first time, my answer became, "I 'm not sure what I want to be." Right out of high school making the decision of what you are going to do for the rest of your life is scary, so I juggled back and forth from teaching and nursing. I eventually decided to take a break for a while until I knew what I needed to do.…

After taking the “Skills Survey” at the end of Chapter 5, I was surprised to find several strengths and limitations I was unaware of in my listening skills, as well as some abilities I was unsure of. I found that I had eight specific strengths throughout the assessment. These included, being a good listener, feeling comfortable speaking and giving eye contact, asking the speaker to repeat their feelings for personal clarity, empathy, asking questions to gather information, using reflection techniques, using basic interviewing skills, and facilitating conversation to move toward a goal. All of these skills are clearly brought out in my experience volunteering at Orchard Hill Elementary.…

Throughout this semester, the most useful lesson I learned was from doing this self-assessment, which assisted in having a clearer understanding of who I am and who I will become. More importantly, they allowed me to better understand my own strengths and weaknesses, and how to better develop them. This understanding is essential to me as a future practitioner in the events industry. In this essay, I will discuss my own leadership style as “pacesetting” based on the self-assessment result proposed by Daniel Goleman (2000). I will first discuss my leadership strengths (e.g., time management) and weaknesses (e.g., lack of negotiation skills) retrieved from the self-assessment and my daily life.…
