Self-Assessment.

I do not have much writing background, and writing never been my favorite activity. Previously

I took an English Composition class in Hocking College therefore this was my very first time I had to

write an essay in English language. As a middle aged women, out of school for 20 years and English as

a second language, I felt a little nervous before research skills class, and I probably have a

disadvantage compared to the other students in this class who are fresh out of high school but I believe

that a good challenge is important for our personal growth and I welcome any challenge that comes my

way. Research skills class assignments were divided into small chunks which introduced every little

nuance about the final paper. We started the class with introducing

Creating the working theses was a little bit challenging for me. There were lots of materials in

Moodle about how to create one and with the help of my instructor Audra and Moodle I was able to

create strong theses for my research paper. The week when we started to learn about APA and MLA

reference styles seemed overwhelming because there are so many specific instructions. After reading

about it in Norton Field Guide, it started to make more sense, and I was able to get a good grade when

our assignment was about how to quote, paraphrase and summarize my resources. In my opinion

referencing in APA style was one of my strong sides. Also, I was able to pick reliable sources for my

research paper. The annotated bibliography assignment was also easy for me because I had similar

assignment in my psychology class a week before and I knew exactly what to do.

After submitting my final draft, my weakest was the proofreading according to my instructor

and I agree with her 100 percent. My sentences may seem a little different and awkward from time

It has been nine years since I have attended college and eleven since I have taken an English course. The first English Composition class I took in 2004, was very dry, and the expectations from what I remember were extremely low. We read excerpts, wrote reflection papers, and that pretty much sums it up. When I reviewed the classes needed for my current degree of interests, I immediately convinced myself English Composition would be the easiest way for me to ease myself back into college. My expectations were low only because of what I experienced before, and I felt this was the place to start in order to help bring my confidence up about returning to college.…

An example of plagiarism are turning in someone else's work as your own and also copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit.
