Task orientation is one of the areas where I am most lacking. One of my biggest shortcoming as a student and leader is my lack of organization. I have a tendency to take tasks on as I feel the need to without setting out a particular plan for success. One of the assessments in the quiz was do “I spend at least 5 percent of my workweek either planning myself or helping team members with their planning” (DuBrin 116). My lack of planning and organization has proven detrimental time and time again in my academic and work career. In the coming year I can start by taking small steps toward organization. I can begin planning a studying, exercise, and work schedule, so that I never have to worry about particular events conflicting with others. I might benefit by not procrastinating as well. I scored in the 12-15 range meaning my work is “quite meaningful”. In the beginning of my undergraduate career, I struggled heavily with deciding my major. Through the SJLA program, I always had a philosophy major on the side, but only viewed philosophy as an on-the-side hobby of sorts. I switched my major from undecided, to English, and finally management. I finally realized that philosophy is the only major I see myself studying in and dropped my management major. In philosophy I find meaning in my life. While studying the philosophers of past and present, I learn what it means to think ethically and critically. I learn to love wisdom for its own sake. I only seek work which is meaningful to me. As a leader I am motivated by meaning. I seek to lead those under me for a particular purpose. As a leader I hope to help those in my team find meaning in their own work. Once a worker finds meaning, he becomes infinitely more motivated to accomplish; not only for himself, but for his team as well. I hope in the next year to inspire people through meaningful
