In this class, I have connected it to my personal life as well as my academic life. My first-year experiences have taught me a lot about myself and my perceptions of others around me. I learned about what is important to me and how to get involved around campus so I can get to know others who are not in my class. I feel like a completely different person than when I started college because I have a different perception than I did when I started. My first example that I have learned about myself is that I am not really shy as I thought I would be. I have been more engaging in discussions in all my classes and I have been involved in clubs and organizations in Hartwick community. I also have found that I do not have to be at a senior or a junior to get a head start. I have been going to many of the sessions that PSGE Center like the Internship Fair or getting a job shadow at Bassett Healthcare which will help me in my direction in the field of medicine and boost your resume. One of the clubs that I am proud to be a part of is called PALS, which stands for Pluralism Associates League of Students, where I met wonderful people and hope to gain leadership experiences. I have been spending a lot of time trying to get my self-motivated by trying new study habits, doing extra homework and getting assignments done before they are due. I would not be here getting a college education without my parent’s sacrifices for their children to obtain higher education in U.S. since they did not. I do not want to disappoint them and I love to work hard for myself to accomplish my goals. In high school, I was really studios because I took many college classes, graduated in the top ten of my class and was involved a lot in my community and school such as being part of National Honor Society. I hope to develop a study routine and get above 3.5 GPA so I can accomplish more than what I had in high

Through this class, though, I have enjoyed reading about the different family experiences that people have told of, and it has been inspiring to me. I have also realized how much my family and I take for granted, and it makes me so much more appreciative to be with them, and to be safe.…

I am an advanced procrastinator or in other words an AP student with a part-time job and so you see my schedule is busy enough as it is without added hobbies.…

I have learned about others’ experiences and how those experiences have changed them to become better and to think about different topics throughout the world. I have learned to be open-minded to what is happening now but also being open-minded to all opportunities. Through some of my experiences on campus, I have become more open-minded through discussing current events and have learned to develop my pre-conceived notions of a certain individual judging them based on their actions rather than what they appear to be. As someone who is an introvert, being isolated isn’t a big deal but at my time in college, I have become increasingly comfortable with doing things by myself and traveling places…

Steve Harvey’s brief interview and fifth grade teacher, Daniell Russel’s ingenious and creative employment of a hybrid linguistic instruction in “Do You Speak American — Episode 3”, were genuinely interesting and thought provoking. As I watched the video, my mind raced with focused inquisition and a severe hunger to investigate the resolutions of my inquiries. Later, I read an excerpt from Keith Gillard’s, “Voices of the Self”, which in all of its distinguished authority allowed me to identify the categorical linguistic philosophy I maintain as a future educator. Considering that speech is a cognitively learned activity dependent on muscular activity — it is accurate to conclude that cultural, racial, and geographical influences greatly…

This semester in critical thinking class, I learned many new things that affected my everyday life. One of those things was VOC or (voice of criticism) and ego defense. The voice of criticism is that little voice we all have in our head that it's only good for bringing you down. My hope of attending college is that I will accomplish my goal of continuing on in my life and finding a path of life that best suits me. ‘’Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’’, this quote by Nelson Mandela shows that education is limitless and by attending college, I can further my education to the point where things that I thought were unimaginable could now be at the grasps of my fingertips. All of this hope that is instilled in me comes from motivation from my parents, they constantly praise and show gratitude towards me for being able to proceed past them because they didn’t have the opportunity to get the same quality education as I am getting now. My parents and my sister were always by my side throughout this journey from first applying to Hudson County Community College to now being accepted into Hudson Community College, and with this motivation and reassurance I feel confident that I can accomplish anything that I put my mind to.…

On November 15th 2016, I refrained from being my usual touchy self and examined how my grandparents and twin sister reached. I was not sure if they would notice any difference, but to my surprise, they noticed my change in behavior more than I expected which left me feeling bad. As expressed by Hertenstein, “touch serves many functions and conveys many messages,” specifically touch communicates closeness and warmth between individuals (Knapp, Hall, & Horgan, 2014, p. 231). I personally am a very warm individual and I show my connection with others through touch, especially with family members.…

The art of writing is a phenomenon similar to playing an instrument or practicing a sport. In all activities, no matter how much practice or experience someone has, there is always room for some type of improvement. Writing is no different because there is an endless cycle of error and correction involved. When something is corrected, there is always another error or mistake that pops up in a piece of writing. That mistake then needs tweaking, sometimes minor, and other times major.…
