Self-analysis is a way for one to detect his or her own personality traits, reflect on the behaviors that can have either have a negative or positive influence and improve on the weaknesses moving forward. It is useful because it gives one the opportunity to identify traits that will enable the person to ease through any type of situation. Along with my already-known strengths and weaknesses, I took the Felder and Soloman Learning Styles and Strategies assessment to help identify more of them. It consists of survey questions to assess my strength and weaknesses as a learner. I am a strong sensitive learner and a weak intuitive learner, I am a strong visual learner and a weak verbal learner, I lack analytic abilities, I lack eye-to-eye communication skills, and I lack enthusiasm when adapting to a new environment. Of the five learner behaviors identified, the three learner behaviors I believe will impede on my success, if I do not make any attempt to improve, are my strong preference for visual learning than verbal learning, lack of eye-to-eye communication skills, and lack of enthusiasm to adapt to a new environment. It will enable me to learn more effectively because, according to the book Psychology, “one of psychology’s oldest findings is that spaced practice promotes better retention than massed practice. You’ll remember material better if you spaced your time over several study periods…” (Myers, 2013).
