Referring to table 1 in appendix I, I was rated higher in terms of intrapersonal skills as compared to interpersonal skills. When my mean results were compared to the mean scores from the relevant articles cited by the survey, it was shown that I had a high score for attitude towards authority and rather low on self-monitoring score (<9). The other 3 aspects were rated moderate and close to the population mean. Results from all four surveys are rather similar with some discrepancies as shown in figure 2. When choosing, I took into consideration the results from all the surveys, in particular the one from my colleague. I feel that it is the most accurate portrayal of my behavior in the work environment, where I will need relevant leadership skills to progress in the corporate ladder. I believe that my results for the self-monitoring survey are reliable as all 3 informants and myself gave similar answers (Fig.1) – 3 results gave low SM scores (<9). The acquaintance gave the highest score of 9 amongst all, which is considered a low moderate result. As such, I tend to display my true attitudes and dispositions in most situations. For example, when I was doing my internship at a small auditing firm, I encountered problems with a particular senior. I did not agree with the way he was performing their audit duties as he was cutting corner and it was against my values. Although the other auditors in the firm were aware of his behaviors, most of them simply closed an eye to maintain to good relationships. However, I showed immense displeasure, evident through my attitude towards him, despite being the junior. I felt that this incident displayed a low level of self-monitoring as I was unable to put on a “face” in front of him. I was also unwilling to compromise and chose to damage our work relationship.
