The groups were decided at random, and I was placed luckily with two very close friends, Josefeth and Reyna, and Kevin, a student who did not have the best reputation for completing his assignments. I felt from the beginning that I might end up doing more work than Kevin, but I decided to trust that he would not let the group down when so many points were at stake. We began delegating responsibilities amongst ourselves and made progress as they days went by. Nearing the deadline, we checked on each others progress a few days prior to the due date. Reyna, Josefeth, and I had each completed our segments of the assignment, and Kevin had assured us that he, too, had completed his portion.…

When most of the work on individual parts of the topic was done, one of our group members informed us that he had to withdraw from the course due to personal circumstances. Now the work of four people had to be divided among three of us. Even at that point our group was working hard, despite the numerous assignments in other courses. Another frustration with the assignment hit me when the deadline for submitting the assignment was change to three days earlier right before the date for submission. At that point our group had little to no time to combine all individual parts together, proofread and submit the assignment.…
Every day of junior year I woke up and dreaded the second I had to step into Mrs. Monroy’s Spanish class. She was the strict, no nonsense kind of teacher and she was cruel and cold-hearted when it came to grading. It only took half of a semester for my grade to start falling below a B. This caused for some “talks” with my parents and for growth, a term that that they heavily emphasized in those “talks”, to come to the forefront of my mind. When I think of growth, I do not just think of growing from eating too much ice cream, but also growing in ways like learning to play a new sport or, in this case, learning a new language. Trying to learn anything in Spanish seemed impossible, it has always been my worst subject and it also did not help that I had zero friends in the class and the best seat to take naps in.…
At UC Davis, I am an University Honors Program student so I take smaller sized honors level classes with other honors students. While in class, I noticed that most honors students are very involved in class projects and have their own approach to projects. I was put into a random group for a project that accounted for a majority of the grade. In my group, every member had their own ideas and opinions on the way the project should be completed which is great because every member was very involved in the assignment. However this caused problems among the group as the members couldn’t agree on a decision to be made about the project.…

Problem 2: Crisis Action Planning When starting on Problem 2, there were a couple of lessons learned from the first problem, I wanted sustain and others I wanted to improve upon. The one thing I wanted to sustain from our first group was the relaxed atmosphere we had. There really wasn’t a lot of running around and playing catch up. Everyone was able to accomplish their work without any real missteps and believed that everyone put the best foot forward towards the problem at hand. The main thing I wanted to improve in the new group, was how we interacted as a group.…
At the beginning of the semester I was worried because I though this class was going to be really hard for me. Collaboration can be extremely fruitful when the environment is flexible, open-minded, constructive, and the team has clear goals. Working on a team involved identifying roles for each member based upon our strengths. Early on in the capstone class, my group attempted to fit each member into arbitrary, rotating roles in order to complete our requirements. The first semester revealed conflicts of work methods and styles. Our communication was poor and workload uneven.…
We were going to be working together and we know about each other, we conducted that working on a group project together can provide advantages for each team member and learn new skills. Each one of us had a different job to do during our class assignments such as collecting data from the web, making interviews with people and preparing our reports and presentations. I was trying to take a more active role in our presentations, in exchange for taking a less active role in the idea formatting and report stages. We were trying to assign each one of us because of the variation skills of my group members that could be applied in many parts of the project depending on the area that they are…
