I have been self-administered Betsy’s case. Within this case I will work one on one with my client to resolve ethically conflicting circumstances. As Betsy’s social worker, I have already gained her trust through the step of engagement with the interactions that I have had with her to this date. Throughout these interactions she has confided in me about her unhealthy relations with males in her life that she refers to as her friends. At the same time, Betsy confesses that she has been taking money for her disability in both her maiden and married name. The next step to be taken is through assessment. Within this step I will be sitting down with Betsy and creating a strategy so that we can implement an intervention. During this meeting the client’s …show more content…
The criteria I would you use to make this decision would be by how critical the situation is and the risk that it causes for my client. Those risks can be in the form of physical or mental harm. My first priority is to assess Betsy and get her into a safe environment. Betsy’s mental health will be evaluated so that a course of action can take place and her mental well-being can be increased. This is not only due to her chronic mental illness but can be attributed to the mental harm in which she has endured. This was caused by the manipulation and sexual abuse that engulfed her life prior to this …show more content…
An important factor that should not be overlooked is the fraudulent behavior that has taken place that is partially funding her future rental costs. I put her safety above her legal issues due to my criteria preciously listed. While this kind of behavior is not condoned, it can be stopped at this point in time and dealt with after Betsy is in a safer environment where she can make more rational decisions. Once Betsy has been admitted into the mental health facility, I will make her behavior known to the legal system. During that time, I will plea for an agreement that helps my client continue her treatment as well as pay her debt back to society. That will consist of Betsy living within the mental health facility while completing acts of community

Error 1 Perhaps the most noticeable micro-level practice error displayed in the Gabriel Myers case can be seen in the case worker’s careless effort to provide informed consent for Gabriel’s medical treatment. According to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, “In instances when clients lack the capacity to provide informed consent, social workers should protect their clients’ interests by seeking permission from an appropriate third party, informing clients consistent with the clients’ level of understanding. In such instances, the third party acts in a manner consistent with clients’ wishes and interest” (Socialworkers.org, 2008).
