Being a candidate for the National Technical Honor Society is a huge achievement and honor. I feel as if I deserve this because of all the hard work I have done just to get here, and also the effort I have put into my school work to achieve this. My first year of highschool I decided to set a goal for myself. My goal was to get honor roll every nine weeks throughout my high school career. To achieve this so far I have had to be very determined about reaching my goal, and I have been.It was occasionally a hard process, but I still tried my hardest. I refused to give up on my goal. I had many friends who made it even more difficult for me. Instead of bringing me up and encouraging me they put me down about it. They constantly told me that I would eventually mess up and ruin my goal, but i didn’t let them get to me and discourage me from achieving my goal. I had to take many of those people out of my life, because those people aren’t good people to have in my life.…
Paragraph 3 - Identical twins are different in so many ways. Take for example the Bonnie and Brenda twins, they are identical twins, but different in so many ways. They were born as identical twins, and one became transgender. Another set of twins Anais and Sam they were raised from different parents, and raised in different countries. One of them was an actress and the other was a fashion designer. The twins Tim and James are another example. One of them had a bad kidney, so the other twin gave him one of his kidneys.…
I am an undergrad Human Biology student studying nutrition at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. I am asking you to cosponsor the CONC US SB 2529 (or CONG US HR 4617) bill that would amend the Richard B. Gallium is one of those elements that is used in industry every day. Gallium was discovered in Paris at the private laboratory of Paul-Emile Lecoq de Boisbaudran (1831-1912) at 3 a.m. on August, 1875. He observed a new violet line in the atomic spectrum of some zinc he had extracted from a sample of zinc blende ore (ZnS) from the Pyrenees. He knew it meant that an unknown element was present. Gallium comes from Gallia, the Latin name for France. Gallium also has origins in the Latin word Gallus. Boisbaudran was also able to obtain the free metal by electrolysis of a solution of potassium hydroxide (KOH). Lecoq de Boisbaudran had to work through a large amount of zinc ore. But his hunch turned out to be correct. What Boisbaudran didn’t realise…
The events that ended World War II in Japan are well known. Feelings about the choice made to drop atomic bombs on Japan are varied. Some feel that the destruction could have been avoid, while others feel that the choice was unavoidable and possibly saved more lives than it took. The scientists that built the atom splitting bombs dealt with many of the same ethical questions still posed about the bombs. Ultimately, the decisions made about the bombs would affect numerous generations beyond the current one.…
Technology is ever-changing, especially in our world today. Many people even feel that they are addicted to technology or specifically their handheld devices. As teachers we have to equip our students to live in this kind of world. According to Sousa, “…children who spend their early years in front of screens will eventually have adult brains that are hardwired to process information at a frantic pace” (Sousa, 679). Technology has many positive aspects, but often gets a bad rap. According to Wedlock & Growe, “The problem is that technological innovations need to be transformed from tools of obsession into tools of education”…
JROTC or the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps was a program established in 1916 by the National Defense act. JROTC is usually in high school but can be found in some middle schools. The reason for this program is to instill a sense of patriotism, self-reliance, team building skills, and leadership skills. The program has been shown to have a great effect on students over the years and the benefits of this program have been proven over and over. Over the years though the program has seen many changes. Even though the program still strives to pursue the same goals as it did back then, there have been notable changes that have been made. JROTC has been around since 1916 and with the 100 years it’s been around it continues to change as it has today and will continue to change even in the future.…
Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency is caused by mutations in the serpina1 gene on chromosome 14. The serpina1 gene codes for the Alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) enzyme which is a protein that protects the lungs, and is made in the liver. This deficiency occurs when there is a lack of a protein in the blood called alpha-1 antitrypsin. Without the protection of this protein, the lungs are more sepetable to be attacked by neutrophil elastase. Neutrophil elastase is an enzyme that is made by white blood cells and it fights infections. When AAT is not is not released into the lungs, neutrophil elastase attacks it. Not only does it affect the lungs but also the liver. The low level of this protein in the blood occurs because…

Palladium is a chemical element with symbol Pd and atomic number 46. It is a rare and lustrous silvery-white metal discovered in 1803 by William Hyde Wollaston. He named it after the asteroid Pallas, which was it’s named after the epithet of the Greek goddess Athena, acquired by her when she slew Pallas. Palladium. Over half of the supply of palladium and its congener platinum goes into catalytic converters, which convert up to 90% of harmful gases from auto exhaust (hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide) into less-harmful substances (nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water vapour). Palladium is also used in electronics, dentistry, medicine, hydrogen purification, chemical applications, groundwater treatment and jewellery. Palladium…
The actual score on the exam was lower than what I expected. I feel as though there were numerous factors that contributed to this. First, I feel as though this was due to the fact that I feel as though the material taught in lecture teaches us concepts which I understand but not how to apply the material which is the majority of the exam. I feel as though the lectures lull me into a false sense of security as I think I understand the material but in reality I am not being taught what I need in order to succeed on the test.…
Although an elementary notion, it is important to point out that not all medical devices require FDA ‘Approval’. 510(k) procedures (Class I devices), by far the most common, actually are a premarket notification which will translate into FDA registration and listing. Only Class III, high-risk devices, is subject to premarket approval.…
When I took the IAT test, I did not receive the results I expected. My IAT results resemble that I moderately to strongly favor whites over African Americans. I decided to retake the IAT test because I was so astonished by my results the first time through. I would like to believe that I do not favor whites nor blacks, but in reality, I cannot disagree with the way my results came out. I believe these results represent my upbringing. I hope to change my IAT results in the future. I do not want to be biased or racist toward one group or the other. When it comes to my experiences, I think I have limited interaction with people of other races. In high school I had African American friends, and I did not judge them based on the color of…
On the morning of April 16th, 2014, the Sewol a South Korea Ferry took off from Incheon traveling to Jeju island. On board, over 476 people 325 of whom were students from a school in the capital city of Seoul. As the ship would begin to sink the captain would fail to give on order to evacuate. The captain and several crew members would instead disembark the ship saving themselves as hundreds of people were left to die. Many factors would contribute to the loss of life during rescue operations. Nearby ships in the area close enough to assist in rescue operations had non-operational rafts and were virtually unable to help. The South Korean Coast Guard would be severely criticized by the public as well as the government. Former President Park would disband the Coast Guard announcing during a nationally televised speech that "The coast guard's rescue operations…
