Selenium and Cancer. The Clark study 1996 suggested selenium might reduce cancer mortality. Cancer prevention stated that with a supplement 200mcg a day and compared to placebo. It reduced cancer incidents remarkably by 63% in prostate, 58% in colon and 46% in Lung cancer. This suggested that maybe Se could be used as a cancer preventive. This brought on a huge study named SELECT, the study of Selenium & Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial. The result was that healthy men would possibly not benefit form selenium for cancer prevention.
