“Assassination is the logic of those having no logic and fearing justice” - Mohammad Khatami. Selena Quintanilla-Perez, an amazing Mexican-American singer was at the height of her career, when her life was taken by Yolanda Saldivar. Selena’s assassination was unjustified, she was successful and Yolanda used that to her advantage, some might say that Yolanda killing Selena was an accident. She was very young when she took over the world with her music. “ The killing of the star, who had won a Grammy last year and whose recording ‘Amor Prohibido’ [“Forbidden …show more content…
“Saldivar had been managing Selena’s boutique in San Antonio, and was fired for embezzling money” (Biography.com). Yolanda was taking the money from the boutique and using it for personal reasons. “Mr.Quintanilla described Ms.Saldivar as a “disgruntled employee,” who was fired after money was discovered to be missing from the store. He said that Selena had demanded that the woman return financial documents about the company and that the two women meet at the motel” ( Verhoek “Grammy-Winning Singer Selena killed in a shoot at Texas Motel”). Yolanda was taking advantage of the success from the boutique. She thought she could get away with taking the money since she had gotten so close and earned Selena’s trust. Nobody knows why Yolanda would kill someone she was so close to. Some might argue that Yolanda Saldivar killed Selena on accident. “Selena’s killer stayed in a red pickup truck with a gun to her head for 10 hours, while surrounded by police” (Verhoek ). She knew what she did was bad, and she thought killing herself might be a way out. “Saldivar argued that she accidently fired the shot, but the jury didn’t buy it,” ( Hetter). She claimed Selena was her best friend, so she wouldn’t kill her. Yolanda Saldivar had no reasonable explanation as to why she killed

Reason can only have one victor. In Hidalgo’s case, reason prevailed because everything that allowed him to have true faith was taken away from him, or forced upon him by the institutions of the Catholic Church and the Spanish Monarchy. This holds true until the penultimate scene of Hidalgo’s death in which he is forced to repent for his actions, something that is supposed to leave someone feeling like their most vulnerable self.
