How SSRIs has helped people with Depression One in ten Americans take some kind of antidepressant for depression. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) is just one type of drug used to treat depression.There are many different types of SSRIS but the most commonly used perception is Paroxetine. Paroxetine has some side effects that could affect many kids under the age of 18. This is used to treat depression, anxiety, and obsessive compulsive disorder in adults and sometimes in children. SSRIs helps by enhancing the serotonin levels in the brain. “Serotonin is one of the chemical messengers (Neurotransmitters) that carry signals between brain cells.
