“It’s very hard for me to trust and to confide in a man. I have a very high guard up and don’t trust much of what any man tells me. It’s hard for me to open up and actually believe that there are men out there that actually have good intentions.” Not only is she keeping her guard up for her own emotional health, but for her children’s sake also. Her oldest daughter Averie, who is now eight years old, still suffers from the memories of abuse.
“There are still days where I struggle and wish I didn’t have to do it alone.” Being a single mother with 5 kids is a lot and making sure they never feel abandoned. “I don’t regret my circumstances, without Tony I wouldn’t have my little family I have today, and I wouldn’t be the person I am.” Sejourney’s kids are what keep her going every day. Whenever they see her falling down they are the first to pick her up.
Since leaving Tony, Sejourney has been able to do things she never thought would be possible.
