I’m not talking about wearing a dress vs dress pants, heels vs flats, or even tie vs bow-ties. I AM talking about the people who show up to a music competition wearing shoes with music notes printed on them, or better yet, an entire dress with the print of a music staff. Now ordinarily, these clothing items may be viewed as unique or singular and I may agree so myself in the common day setting. But at a music competition, its excessive. TBO clothes are just screaming for attention. “Look at me! I play music!” Yes we all do. “Look how devoted I am to my craft!” Yes, the rest of us are also devoted, just without plastering it all over ourselves. This idea applies to any music related clothing article, such as the girl playing the saxophone while wearing a saxophone pin, we get it. Likewise, an astonishing accessory common among TBO are medals. This past weekend, I witnessed four people wearing an allstate medal around their necks. Knowing personally myself what an honor it is to have an allstate medal presented to you, I have mine proudly hung up in my room, not hung around my neck, bragging about my abilities (allstate is the highest level honor band you can be accepted into during high school). Other outfits may be worn by TBO, such as the gentleman I saw on Saturday who was obviously auditioning for SEIBA jazz, as he looked like he had just come from a recent poetry slam that played smooth jazz over the radio; You know what I’m talking about, with the scarves and hats and attitude of sophistication. In the end, TBO clothing is just another outlet for them to draw attention to
