Northern cities population increased by a lot because blacks were getting treated more fair in the North. In the North African Americans had to sit in the back and had to use different water fountains and restrooms. At first in the very beginning blacks and white did not have to be separated because most African Americans were in slavery. Congress had to say so to prevent discrimination. In this law African Americans were the main attack. But in Mississippi African Americans were able to vote they were getting treated almost like they were supposed to. White people were having riots against us. They were burning down building of our and trying to put a stop to anybody that had power at that time. We had people in the North fight to keep are votes and fighting to keep our freedom. It was so much earlier in the North than the south. In the south they would launch us. Our votes were not worth a whole vote. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks attended this school called Highlanders. It was a civil rights movement school they fought for social justice and peace and equality. The KKK attached Highlanders many of times and it's still standing. THe governor and whiteland made the Highlanders shout down in 1961. They made them shout down because they did not like the power Highlanders were starting to gain in the south.
