Frank Sinatra once said, “The best revenge is massive success.” This quote states that instead of getting revenge on someone, make yourself better by succeeding. Revenge instructs us to punish an offender. By punishing someone else, you are really just punishing yourself. Hurting someone else won’t change the past, it keeps the past in the present. Revenge can leave you dwelling and remaining unhappy. Dwelling on the past only makes you look like a lesser person. Revenge doesn’t make us feel any better, it will make us feel negative emotions. Revenge can lead to poor health, such as anxiety, depression, and chronic stress. In a sense, revenge is a ball that doesn’t stop rolling. People will try to get revenge on someone right after it was “given” to them. Do people seek revenge for justice or personal gain? Do they think that it will solve their problem? Some say that revenge is the same as justice, while others say that it will only keep the past in the present. When seeking revenge, people feel as if it is very rewarding at first, but then they feel the negative effects of “delivering justice.” An example of this is in the play Romeo and Juliet, when Romeo kills Tybalt as revenge for Tybalt killing Mercutio. Romeo felt very bad afterwards, but he thought that it would make him feel better. They soon regret trying to hurt the other person for their own gain. Also, some people react too soon, resulting in them using revenge to “get back” at others. For example, teenagers will try to get back at a friend that hurt their feelings by starting a rumor about them. Many teenagers think that they’re just starting a rumor, but they will deeply hurt their
