Another major concern with pelvic fracture is sepsis. A patient could be able to survive the initial pelvic injury but then later go into septic shock. The most obvious complication with any bone fracture especially including pelvic fractures is pain. Ways to reduce pain can include decreasing movement, medication and other therapeutic interventions (Lewis et al., 2014, p.1524).
Important Nursing Assessments Important nursing assessments include constantly assessing breathing, pain, fluid volumes, capillary refill and mental status. Assessing the patients breathing can help determine if there is abdominal pain or swelling, assessing the fluid volumes will show how effectively the bladder is working, capillary refill can help to determine the amount of blood flow to the extremities and finally any mental status change can be a sign of something much more serious and dangerous happening (Nursing Central, Disease and Disorders, 2016, pelvic fracture).
