Learning to refrain from expressing myself directly in an outburst or closing off and instead listening to others and weighing in on the deeper subjects they are trying to get across is a task I must actively peruse. In a perfect world compassion would be the aim and the grounded state, I just don't believe that through NVC compassion is our natural state. My father is quite reserved and part of my success has stemmed from me trying to achieve his approval. Being interested and sensitive to others might assist the process of compassion but, it won't solve it altogether. I don't believe that my dad will automatically reciprocate the conscious compassionate conversation back to me. Yes, we see our efforts go to good use when they benefit another and the receiver receives gifts without consequences but, at what point does the giver and receiver switch places or is everyone glued to their station without the ability to be
