The data gathered from the two experiments supported the original hypotheses, but more testing is necessary in order to draw an accurate conclusion. In the experiments, the control bag grew whilst the other four bags with alterations did not grow. Both of the hypothesizes for these experiments stated that the control bag would germinate the best, which the data supported. Most likely, the control bag germinated because it gave the plant all of the bare necessities for survival and its resources weren’t tampered with. The bean seeds that attempted to germinate in the conditions which were different from what they normal would (i.e. colder climate, more acidic water), had to adapt to the new environment and simply couldn’t do so quick enough …show more content…
The bean seeds used in this experiment were several years old, meaning that the seeds had likely been dormant for too long and thus incapable of germination. Seed dormancy, “a block to the completion of germination of an intact viable seed under favorable conditions” , allows the prevention of seeds germination until it is in a suitable habitat with the means for survival thus all the seeds can germinate at the same time. Even so, seed dormancy only delays germination, if a seed has not begun germination after a certain period of time (dependent on the species of plant the seed is from) the embryo inside will die and the seed will be incapable of germination. Since it is uncommon for 12 of the 15 beans used in a project not to germinate when subjected to conditions that may differ but still provide the means for survival, it is a safe assumption that the bean seeds used in this project were defective. The information gathered from these experiments is presumably useless seeing as faulty seeds wouldn’t have germinated no matter if they had all been subject to the same conditions as the control bag or
