According to Friedrich Schleiermacher, feeling is an object of religion. Religious feelings are an infinite state of consciousness and knowledge is self-conscious awareness of the infinite in the finite. The essence of religion is what connects humans to the infinite. Human expression is limited in Schleiermacher’s opinion because it can only be spoken through language. Due to the idea that individuals are the authority, the bible isn’t necessary because it is only a representation of historical religious feelings and past experiences in language. Good ethics are good actions that are not specifically recognized and evaluated by the person who acted the behavior.1 (44) The human and the divine are simply not separate. Schleiermacher ponders on the idea that it is impossible to be more or scientific without being religious and implies this is true. (45)
Ludwig Feuerbach is a little similar to Schleiermacher.
