Sectionals: A Short Story

Improved Essays
I have three weeks left of my freshman year, and so far this year has been quite the journey. Although, the journey has kind of sucked if I’m being honest. High school has been alright, but middle school was way better. I miss the nice teachers, the roll schedule, and much more. The classes have been easy this year, but I would prefer a challenge rather than just easy work to keep us busy. I honestly haven’t learned very much this year. I never really dreaded going to school until this year, and now I absolutely hate it.

It is currently tennis season and sectionals will be in the next few weeks, but I won’t be playing. Megan Johnson beat me for the 3 Singles spot, but there is a big controversy about it because I beat her 3 times before. Then, last week after a match she got on Coach Slaton’s phone, went to his messages to our assistant coach, James Cruz, took a picture of their messages and sent it to the whole team. The messages were about how he didn’t get the boys’ coaching position and why he should continue. Coach Slaton found out about it, but he thinks it was Caleb White or Camden Jones that did it. It made me made that she did that and now won’t admit it.

The worst part about school right now is that I walk through the halls of the school everyday and see all these people that annoy me. I try not to do this, but it is hard not to when there is a reason to hate just about everyone here. It is impossible to avoid the people I hate, so I just try to keep my mouth shut and not cause

Between 1800 and 1860, economic, social, and political factors contributed to the development of sectional differences between the North and the South. These differences included how best to expand the United States economy, the extension of slavery into the territories, and the relationship between the states and the federal government. These differences laid the groundwork for the Civil War. The North and South followed different paths, developing into two distinct and very different regions. The North economy is mostly relied on manufacturing and industrialization and the South economy is mostly relied on plantation and cotton.…

Sectionalism is the division of the Northern and Southern political beliefs in the United States. One of the main differences between the North and the South was their opinions on slavery. The North was completely industrialized; factories were being built and because of the massive immigrant population slaves were not needed, nor benefited the Northern economy. In the South, the economy was made up of an agricultural society. The North prospered as an industrialized economy because of the development and the invention of new transportation such as the railroad system and canals.…

All I wanted to do was enjoy my day on a Freshman retreat to Camp Tekawitha. On a hot day I got back from my retreat around 5:10. Jaclyn and I talked to our coach two days before the retreat and told her that we would be getting back around 5:00 and probably won't be able to make it to practice. We told our coach around 5:00 because our teachers didn't know exactly what time we would be getting back to school. Since practice was over at 5:30, Jaclyn and I thought it wouldn't be necessary to go to practice.…

The increase of sectionalism was an important act formed by the events following the Mexican-American War by causing states to secede, transportation developments, and eventually leading to the start of America’s bloodiest battle, the Civil War. These events led to how America is viewed by people today and what our state’s rights are and will be. By the end of the Mexican-American War, America had gained rights over California and many southern states. Prior to the Mexican-American War, slavery between the states was an ongoing complication that began to cause conflicts. The conflicts created led acts established by the people that became an important statement for why the Mexican-American War and the Civil War were started.…

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

Some people say that the four short years of high school are the best years of their life. For me, that wasn’t the case. Maybe I didn’t do it right, or maybe I was focused on the wrong things, but let’s just say I’ve been counting the days until graduation from my freshman year. Although high school wasn’t the best years of my life, if I could give my former self some advice, maybe I could have changed that. In order to better myself in the long run, I would tell my former self that I need to step out of my comfort zone, be myself, and relieve some of the stress that I was feeling.…

Freshman year of high school is scary for anyone, the enormous transition from being a top dog at middle school, back to an underclassman; wondering if your high school teachers will be as unforgiving as your 8th grade teacher’s descriptions, or even just that uncertainty that comes along with any major change. As a homeschooler entering school system for the first time, and having completely skipped 8th grade, it was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect, I worried about being behind the other students, or having missed something in my homeschooling curriculum, even interacting with other kids was all unfamiliar. It definitely didn’t help that, at 13, I was the youngest person in the building. Just two days into the school year, I discovered that P-AP world…
