From the start of my four year commitment to football and marching band I saw leadership all around me. My first summer of football my freshman year the seniors were prime examples of leadership. They were right there to correct form on our lifts, blocks, and set the overall example of what it meant to be a Mead football player. Later that summer I threw in marching band camp to my agenda. Another time that I have taken a leadership role is when our sideline cheer team had a booth at the Water Festival. I took the morning shift and when I got there I had all of the materials but only me and my coach had shown up and she still had to head back to the school to get the things we were selling. So while she went and got the stuff I stayed at the booth and lead it by myself until my teammates came and helped. I decided to be a leader in this situation because I knew that it was what I had to do to help my coach out so that she could get her stuff done. I believe that by leading the booth for a few hours I helped my coach accomplish what she had to do for the day and helped my team by sitting at the booth fundraising to help pay for some of our debts.…

It takes motivation and positivity as well the skill set to be a strong leader on the administrative side of things. Some of my favorite captains, Correll Maley and Amanda Leung, have wonderfully led the team and are both people I look up to. The captain should be someone who can support the team when they’re down and rally for them when they’re up. The captain should be someone who can handle the tasks that are required of them and who can work well with their other co-captains. The captain should also be someone who genuinely wants to lead, motivate, and have fun with their peers.…

After reading the textbook and the discussions in class, the theories of group counseling, viewing groups through multicultural lens, leadership qualities and functions, co-facilitator and group development stood out for me and broaden my perception into Social Work as a profession. The first thing that caught my attention this time is that, theories of counseling are also applicable to group counseling. I learned about the theories in my social work practice class last year. This show how important the theories are to me as an emerging social worker.…
