There were many tragedies in the second world war which included many deaths. Hiding a Jew in the second world war was a crime which resulted in death. In the Book Thief, a German family decides to break the trust of the Nazis in result affecting the relationship with each other negatively. He was extremely lucky that he was not caught while the soldiers were examining the basement but what would happen if the Jew was found in the basement? The relationships between that Nazis and Hans would instantly deteriorate as Hans broke the trust.
