Madame Defarge an older women who could never be relieved of her thirst for blood was a nice old lady on the outside and a killing machine in the inside. She would knit a kill list of the people she wants to knock off this world you see this in the novel when the Jaques (her husband) is talking about her. “Jacques”. returned Defarge, drawing himself up, “if madame my wife undertook to keep the register in her memory alone, she would not lose a word of it-not a syllable of it. Kitted in her own stitches and her own symbols, it will always be as plain to her as the sun.” (Dickens 7). Through this quote you see that Madame Defarge made a register of all the people she was getting ready to kill. She was never satisfied when it came to killing and it was hard to be taken off the kill list you see this in the book when her husband is talking about how strong she is “ it would be easier for the weakest poltroon that lives,to erase himself from existence, than to erase one letter of his name or crimes from the knitted register of Madame Defarge”(Dicken 7), This is an example of how secrets are for the worse of others because no one ever knows who she wants to kill next and if it's …show more content…
Sydney Carton sacrificed his life for Charles and Lucie you see this in the novel when Sydney Carton is talking to Charles Darnay about switching places “When I ask you to pass out at that door, tell me it is madness and remain here. Change that cravat for this of mine, that coat for this of mine. While you do it let me take this ribbon from your hair, and shake out your hair like this of mine” (Dickens 4). This shows you just how much sydney carton cared for Lucie and Charles to give up his life so that their life might be spared. Also Sydney Carton would have never been able to make the ultimate sacrifice of his own life and he would have never felt the feeling of empowerment and coming to his real self. Through giving this sacrifice he felt that he now knows who he is and you see this in the book when Sydney Carton is reflecting on the action he's about to do “it is far, far better thing that i do, than i have ever done;it is a far,far better rest that i go to than i have ever known”(Dickens Book 3 Chapter 15). This quote tells you just how empowered he is feeling as he walks to his death and how much he feels he wouldn't have it any other way. In conclusion the novel A Tale Of Two Cities is full of secrets some kept for the good of others and some kept
