Research Paper- Share Findings with Future Career
Everyone knows that the Secret Service exists, but the exact responsibilities that come with the job are often misguiding. Presenting the unique history of the secret service along with the major programs and sections that it contains, the equipment and benefits of being in the Secret Service, and what steps are needed to achieve this career should greatly benefit someone looking towards this future career.

The Secret Service was originally under the United States Department of Treasury. Now under the United States Department of Homeland Security, more responsibility regarding the Secret Service requires more personnel. The Secret Service was created on July 5, 1865. The legislation creating the agency was on Abraham Lincoln’s desk, signed by Abraham Lincoln himself, the night he was assassinated. The first person to ever be sworn into the Secret Service was Chief William P. Wood. Wood was sworn in by Hugh McCulloch, Secretary of the Treasure, in Washington D.C.. The Secret Service was first known as the “Secret Service Division” under the Department of the Treasury and was not a full-time agency assuming the prevention of financial crimes and protection until 1902. Congress requested that the Secret Service should start providing presidential protection after president William McKinley was assassinated in September of 1901. The Secret Service prevents financial crimes and provides protection for the president. Most of the responsibility falls within domestic domain, but instances whereas dealings with foreign affairs often do occur. Most foreign incidents that include the Secret Service consist with tracking counterfeit money through different countries. Most people do not realize counterfeit money on a global level can ruin many economies. This intent allows inflation to rapidly take over a country. When that happens, lower income countries easily receive guns, drugs, and increase the danger of global wars to break out. Having that agencies to work with countries and become a liaison between countries prevents instances where this could happen. But for this to inevitably happen personnel is required. Agents are constantly pulled away from their families for long periods of time. Personnel can travel from state to state to speak with other agencies or they can be pulled overseas for unknown amounts of time.
