Secret Service Department

In the mid centuries, many states were making there own money by relying on state banks, which provided con artist the opportunity to manipulate currency with out getting imprisoned. As a result of this President Abram Lincoln formed the United States Secret Service under the Department of Treasury with the goal of stopping financial crime (Fuller 1). On September 14, 1901 after the victory of Spanish War President William McKinley was assassinated by Leon Czologosz in Buffalo, NY (History 1). As a result of this on April 4, 1865 President Lincoln signed a piece of legislation adding another responsibility to Secret Service, which was to protect the president of the United States (Fuller 1). Oddly, on that same evening President Lincoln was assassinated by John Wikes Booth in Ford’s Theatre in Washington DC (Blakemore 1).

At first United States Secret service was under the Treasury Department with the mission to prevent fraud against the government. However on March 2003 The United States Secret Service transferred from the U.S Department Treasury to the Department of Homeland Security, which became the United State’s first counterintelligence agency (Reese 2). The Secret Service is made up of two primary divisions, the Uniformed Division and the Special Agent Division. The Uniformed Division is broken down into three branches the white house branch, the Foreign Missions Branch and the Naval Observatory Branch. These three branches together protect the national leaders and their immediate family (Reese 3). The Uniformed division primary goal is to not only protect the national leaders and immediate family but also protect the White House’s immediate surrounding grounds (Inside the White House
