Secret Admirer: an insight on Christopher and Fathers relationship
Parents should always be there for there children. Giving them their attention, love and effort. Raising a child with Asperger’s would be an everyday difficult task. Father makes great effort and is always making sure Christopher’s life is as easy and structured as he would like it. Throughout the novel Fathers actions truly demonstrate how much Father adores and cares for Christopher. This will be proved with three valid points. Fathers most important role is caring and aiding Christopher and he does that so perfectly. When Christopher found out about the letters and who killed Wellington, Fathers effort only grew stronger. Finally, at the end of the novel Christopher grew so horribly distant with his father, but he never gave up.
Father is always going out of his way to please Christopher. When a child won’t eat anything yellow or brown. Has to be on time perfectly for everything. Throws tantrums when something doesn’t fit.

Christopher said, “I could here that Father was crying.” (114). Father apologized and pleaded so many times, saying, “I did it for your good [...] I thought it was better if you didn’t know.” (114). After that he takes Christopher to the washroom and cleans him off. He gets him new clothes and goes to make him some food. Mother left and Father didn’t know what to do. He was confused and he had to think of something quick. He panicked and lied, but it was all just to save Christopher’s feelings. He justified killing the dog. Wellington was attacking him and he had to stop him. Father would do anything to make sure Christopher didn’t get hurt, emotionally or physically. Knowing that Christopher is safe at his mothers he sill went to London to get Christopher back. Father would follow Christopher to the end of the earth just to make sure he doesn’t have to do something he doesn’t want to

While the book does mention this several times, it doesn't seem to be the key reason for why Christopher undertook this journey as it is made out to be in the movie. I think the reason for the movie choosing to rely more heavily on the family issue side of the story is simply because it's easier for the audience to understand. Even Jon Krakauer who has spent years of his life researching and following Christophers journey does not fully understand what made him act the way he…

While life doesn’t always turn out the way it’s expected, it’s the manner in which individuals choose to face the unfortunate challenges which defines who he or she is.
