Exposure to a friend committing suicide can cause individuals to experience depressive and suicidal behavior themselves. An academic study was done on Children exposed to suicidal behavior results found that children who were exposed to suicidal behavior were four times more likely to report a lifetime suicide attempt compared with unexposed children (Burke 2010). Another study found that children who experience trauma are at heightened risk for attachment problems, depression, anxiety, disorders, suicidal ideation and behaviors, eating disorders, conduct disorders, and impulse related disorders (Brezo 2008). The Long-term consequences of childhood trauma exposure include substance abuse and dependence, depression; sever obesity, other sever/chronic physiological disease, and premature death (Felitti 1998).
