Hello Joe! It most definitely causes additional stress on the officer that is trying to make additional money. As a result, the officers are not fit for duty during their regular shift because they are tired and not as mentally focused as they need to be in order to come home at the end of their shift. No matter what career you have, working more causes you to be away from home more and as a result, the marriage suffers as well missing children’s events. I agree with you that agencies need to have policies in place for secondary employment so that it does not cause conflict with the department’s interests and values.
