If the cancer has traveled from another part of body or metastasize to the lungs. It is called secondary cancer. Where a cancer starts, it is the primary cancer. For example, if the cancer started in the kidney, the kidney cells have first become cancerous, then spread from the kidney tumor and formed another tumor in the lung (metastases). The focus of the treatment must be the primary cancer cells. Any cancer can spread to the lung.
