In this version of “The Second Son,” I took your advice to tell the story from another POV the extreme and changed from “single I” to an epistolary piece, with no central narrator. In this version, Mal Dallon is less of a “crazy” man, wandering the streets and fighting off his own personal demons, and more of an ignored messiah, in that he’s bringing a message to an unenlightened world (through his death), only for it to be quickly forgotten for the next news bite.
Is this version better than the original? I honestly don’t know. But, I can say that it’s completely different. There are nine, one-page bites from social media, forums, and news websites coming together to tell one story, instead of one man relaying his own story. It’s more interesting
