“Arrest? On what charge?,” Gerrard hissed. Takara spoke once more to the soldier, who replied with an imperious air. She translated, “The charges include--but are not limited to--invasion, illegal migration, arms smuggling, trafficking with the enemies of Mercadia, refusal to speak to the High Mercadian--” Gerrard raked his sword from its scabbard.…

Even though the phrase “point of view” is just three measly words, it is one of the most important choices an author needs to make while deciding how they are going to write their story. Will they write in first person and use “I”, and “we”, or write in 3rd person and address people by their names or use pronouns like “he” or “they”? Although many people decide to write in third person point of view, both the stories The Georges and the Jewels by Jane Smiley, and Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse by Anna Sewell develop their characters through first person point of view. The Georges and the Jewels is a story in perspective of a little girl named Abby, who has had both the good and the bad with horses. She has been thrown off of her…
These is My Words Using a first-person narrative, the reader can sometimes detect that Sarah is interpreting other people’s actions and feelings incorrectly. If the book had been written in third-person, it would not have left the reader in anticipation and excitement for Sarah to discover what the others actually felt, as the reader would not only focus on one person. For example, readers could tell from the very beginning that Sarah had “stolen [Jack’s] very heart away” (Turner 285). However, because it was told from Sarah’s point of view, readers watched her slowly fall for him and discover his affection towards her. Sarah is a unique woman, especially for her time period.…
Analyzing the first chapter of your novel. 1. Read for 20 minutes or until you finish your 1st chapter (whichever comes first). 2. Choose four different colors and assign them to the following categories: theme, setting, characterization, point of view.…
There are many ways to tell the depth of a relationship between two people. It can often be quiet difficult to analyze the relationship between two people. A passage from Johnny Got His Gun talks about a young man and his father going in their annual fishing trip. The selected passage from Trumbo’s novel Johnny Got His Gun uses various techniques such as point of view, selection of details and syntax to characterize the close relationship between Joe and his father.…
Alex Stewart Summer Reading Assignment #2 : Chapter 2: 1. Some of the things that Fitzgerald put into his novel like the ash heap, Wilson’s garage, and the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleberg have much more deeper meaning. The ash heaps have to do with the valley of ashes, which is a very ragged and poor place. This is used to describe and show the symbolization of West Egg, and East Egg of how both are ragged, poor, and unkept just like the valley of ashes.…
A Will Baker short story Grace Period, is written in third person to make the narrator feel what is happening in the story. It was a day like any other but yet something was weird. Having 10 years of experience in Second life has been both rewarding and problematic. I have seen the good, the bad, and the downright ugly of second life resident’s behavior. Even though I have the years of seeing a little bit of everything the grid has to offer, there are still some things that leave me in awe or have me shaking my head wondering what the fuck (WTF)! Today I thought I would share a few with the readers of the SL enquirer my top WTF moments.…
So the narrator acts in accordance and closes his eyes and draws, saying, "So we kept on with it. His fingers rode my fingers as my hand went over the paper. It was like nothing in my life up to now (13)". Through first person point of view it is efficient in this scenario as the narrator describes how he is experiencing. He is now experiencing seeing without his eyes and he feels freedom.…
If the story was written in the first person, the reader would have a better understanding of the…
The “you” voice is as important as the “I” voice, because when the story comes to the end the “you” reveals why his family came to the US, and that moment is the epiphany of the story. Hema is talking to the main character Kaushik, and the main point of view is second, however it interchanges with first person narrative. Jhumpa Lahiri wrote the story not just second person, because the story is not just about one character. It’s about both Hema and Kaushik and the time they spend together. Even though “Once in a Lifetime” switches off between points of view, second person is more present than first in the story, because even though the story is about both Hema and Kaushik, it is actually more about Kaushik, because it’s he who suddenly moved from from India to the US and stays with Hema’s family.…

A writing experience that has stood out the most for me was when I was a sophomore in High School. There was a girl in my class who I wasn't so fond of who one day decided to announce to everyone that she had begun to write her own stories. She showed everyone pieces of her writings expecting to get nothing but compliments and be to deemed the class writer, but when she finally showed me her work I cringed at how deplorable it was. The stories had no clear perspective of whether it was written in first person or third person view, some of the simplest of words were spelled wrong, and many words were used in the wrong context. The class didn't seem to care for her stories so they just gave standard responses with no words for…
