Being pregnant brought me firsthand into what it feels like to have a child, especially when it happens at a time before you planned. I finally could understand how my cousin must have felt, feeling too young and not ready to be a mother. I was 21 when I became pregnant whereas she was 14, and though that isn’t extremely young, I hadn’t intended to start planning a family until I was almost 30. I still had plenty of bridges to cross with my schooling and career, and just other goals in life that I wanted first. I wanted to travel, and enjoy my twenties, being young. I could picture it all going away with the birth of a child. I wasn’t married, and felt like my life could be ruined forever. I was extremely wrong, but the thoughts were there. I had trouble feeling as excited as my boyfriend, who couldn’t contain his excitement. Whereas he was looking as to what he would gain with a child, I saw what all I was

No matter what, every single day somebody is being judged and labeled. Whether or not a person is overweight, underweight, mentally challenged, we are all being judged. Furthermore, growing up in a conservative, white, Christian family, has taught me many things about how I am expected to act, as well as which actions are acceptable or unacceptable. My culture and religious views molded me into believing that it was acceptable to judge others and be intolerant of different groups of people. In my family, you were expected to wait until married to have sex, then it was appropriate to have a child.…

Raised into Racism As a young child you are impressionable from your early developmental years to your adulthood, everything you see, hear even think can be formed into your own beliefs. Once you have enough repetition you believe that what you feel is all right. Children are easily influenced by their peers to believe, think and act like they do. Children can understand what emotions are commonly acceptable and act upon them when they see their peers do so; just like the ‘monkey see, monkey do’ theory. Children no matter how old will mimic and form beliefs on what they see and experience.…

I cannot explain how this event is going to affect how it is going to benefit me in relation to the psychological concepts of my own daily stresses. It is hard for me to fathom because I am so overjoyed that this life has given me the opportunity to not only redeem myself from the horrible addict that I was, but to reward me with the potential of fatherhood. First of all, the benefit that a child will bring to completing a family circle for Bryan and I is, in itself, a miraculous event. An event that will bring much eustress into our lives because we are going to have to learn how this little person learns, how they react to us, how to react to them, what they need to survive, and how we are going to be able to provide those things to them. The benefits of these small events are almost incomprehensible because I keep relating these feelings back to the indescribable happiness, and feelings of self-worth that I received when Cheyanne was born.…
