Second Harvest Food Bank Job Analysis

Improved Essays
To be honest, I don’t have a lot of extracurricular activities due to school and work schedule, but I do have a passion for community service. Last summer, I volunteered at Second Harvest Food Bank. My job was very simple: sorting and packing food to distribute to people in need. I had a chance to work with other volunteers, sharing fun and experiences. Many nearby companies such as: Cisco, Samsung, and Intel came there to volunteer also. This experience brought me a great sense of sharing when engaging myself in helping people. I could see the happiness from people who volunteered with me. They are not rich, even some are very poor. Even so, they worked passionately because they knew that their pleasure was another’s happiness. This feeling makes the job so …show more content…
I live on my own, working a job of 15 hours/week, and being a full-time student; so balancing between my work and study is always a mathematical problem I have to calculate appropriately. I cannot lose my education, but I can’t lose my job either. A part-time job is a tool that helps me earn living while I am still in college. Additionally, the Federal Student Aid and the California State Aid do support me a lot. Thanks to the grants, I have a chance to continue my study in the U.S., following the “American dream”. My parents have divorced when I was one, and my mother still lives in Vietnam. She is retired and needs the support from me. In the face of finance, my accounting skill has taught me how to balance the monthly expenses to meet the budget. A scholarship would be a great assistance in supporting my goal to finish my degree and help to release my financial burden. With this application presenting my personality, qualification, career goal as well as financial need, I hope to be one of the deserved people to receive the Pioneer Scholarships, and it is with great honor and appreciation that I submit this application for your

In the past few years, I’ve volunteered with a variety of organizations from National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Key Club. I have also co-founded a Community Outreach Club at high school. Through the Church I’ve assisted with Vacation Bible School and middle school retreats. One of my favorite memories came from volunteering for the first time with National Spanish Honor Society. Choosing to participate in this program was not a difficult decision, since I knew I wanted to continue practicing my Spanish and volunteer in the community at the same time.…

But then I remind myself that I am not average; I am anything but average. I have already overcome major obstacles in my life that other students my age probably have never even thought about. Being a child of a recovering alcoholic and a victim of foreclosure, I have a different outlook on the world.…

I am truly honored as being a nominee for the Easton Chapter National Honor Society. The standards that must be proven to be nominated by this prestigious society are an example of the hard work and dedication I have exemplified in school. Throughout my years of schooling, I have tried my hardest to get good grades, while also demonstrating the characteristics that make up the National Honor Society; they are leadership, service, and character. While I have exhibited all three throughout my educational career, I feel that my service characteristic stands out above the rest. Service can mean many things, but to me, it means helping someone perform a task they can’t complete themselves, sacrificing your time, and assisting the less fortunate.…

In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

Just because someone may be working, it may be tough for that particular person to afford the basic necessities in life. This is true for many people across Ontario, as one in five people spend more than thirty percent of their income on housing (Housing Affordability, 2016). Due to this high number, many people across Ontario, rely on the government and organizations to help them attain the basic necessities such as food and shelter. This is why volunteers for non-profit organizations are critical for the survival of many Canadians. In addition to volunteers, affordable housing is crucial as the prices in the private market rental are simply too high for many Canadians.…
