The African American soldiers who were in the Southern states used to get mistreated by White Americans in Courage Has No Color. The black soldiers were living in fear for their lives while receiving treatment. Later a soldier said “We are treated like wild animals here, like we are inhuman…. Civilian policies have threatened to kill several soldiers” (19) the White Americans continued to treat the blacks as unequals . Even though blacks were helping fight in the war, they still faced challenges with racism going to different town in America. Pendleton, Oregon is where Triple Nickel were stationed at, this town was primarily white, but only two bars would allow blacks to purchase anything out of their businesses. Just trying to have a place to sleep, Bradley Biggs said “We could not go into the hotel - they refused to give us a room…. Hotels in town would not serve
