Seaworld's Breeding Rights

This article tells the dispute about Seaworld's breeding rights, each side had there quotes and opinions. To me this article really points out the fact that that Seaworld is in fact a company and not an organization. There intentions are based in profit not benefit of the animals and education; even though if you check Seaworld's website they explain differently. This really makes me wonder if the company is lying to save themselves from being bankrupt or being forcibly shut down. Like anyone I want what's best for the animals, and that possibly could mean that they shouldn’t be in the hands of a company but a conversation group.
With that argument I found a source that explained the Supreme Court's ruling, The London Evening Standard is a

SeaWorld is a multi-million dollar corporation that serves as home for 23 of arguably some of the oceans’ most beautiful creatures. Blackfish is trying to change that with a very captivating argument. Although emotionally compelling, Blackfish is an invalid argument against captivity, It offers a solution and demonstrates practicality, which makes it an argument of policy. However, it is not a valid one, for it lacks a strong and reliable foundation of evidence to support its reasoning for the solution it demands. Blackfish presents former trainers and scientific representatives who present facts about SeaWorld, as well as scientific claims that object to captivity.…

The article “After SeaWorld, a ‘Blackfish effect’ on circuses and zoos?” by Kelly Wallace has gotten a lot of people feeling mixed emotions. In this article it says, “the public has completely changed its opinion on exploiting and killing animals for entertainment.” In SeaWorld animals are being killed and parents are not ok with this. LAZY ARGUING Sea World’s attempt to refute the documentary “Blackfish” was so disappointing. It did not just fail; it crashed and burned. “Blackfish” is a documentary that shows the psychological and physical harm Sea World is doing to their Killer whales by keeping them in a confined space. The Documentary also demonstrates the danger Sea World is putting their trainers in by having them work with their killer whales. In response Sea World published, on their website, an article titled "Truth about Blackfish".…

Seaworld: An Animals Hell Seaworld is a theme park located in Orlando, Florida. This park was founded in 1959, when there was little knowledge of orcas and their capabilities aside from them being big and scary. Due to not knowing much, the founders did not understand that this kind of captivity would drive orcas to do terrible things, cause major stress to their dolphins, and end up harming animals more than helping.…

An article counteracting the renowned film, Blackfish, a documentary about the inhumane treatment and situation of orcas in captivity, was released by Seaworld Cares. Seaworld Cares is a foundation for animals supported by Seaworld. The article was the company’s retort against the film’s “ultimately false and misleading points”. The main purpose of the article is to persuade the reader, while providing some information to support their points. They wish to urge the reader to believe that not everything in the film, Blackfish, was true nor trustworthy.…

Humanity has lost many beloved celebrities in the past year. David Bowie…Prince…Carrie Fisher… and, of course, Tilikum, the killer whale who stared in Blackfish. The thirty-five-year-old SeaWorld Orlando “employee” mysteriously died on January 6. Naturally, the death has sparked debate, as Blackfish portrayed the whale as a misunderstood and mistreated prisoner who murdered three people out of anger towards his captors. However, the sensationalist media has made a tragedy out of something inevitable.…

Less than one month ago, the infamous killer whale Tilikum, died from health issues. Studies have discovered that orcas in their natural habitat live a life span as long as humans. Tilikum perished in captivity at less than half of this age. During his restraint, he had been responsible for the death of three people. SeaLand and SeaWorld did not place the blame on the whale, but instead labeled all incidents as the trainer’s error.…

The U.S. Supreme Court denied the case of Swain vs. Alabama’s appeal in 1965. Swain was a black man convicted of raping a white women in Talladega, Alabama, which sentenced him to death. The court that found him guilty consisted of an all white jury. However, the Supreme Court still denied the appeal because the jury had been selected from a panel consisting of 100 men over the age of 21 that had 8 black men on it. They decided that the difference in the proportion of the black men over 21 on the panel and the proportion of black men over 21 living in Talladega was small enough that it did not suggest blacks were being excluded from the panel on purpose.…

I chose this topic for my poster as not only is it a current social injustice problem, but also a serious one. I feel the need to stand up for the animals of SeaWorld, as they have no voice of their own. All animals that can not live without humanity should be able to live as normal as possible. For example, the animals at SeaWorld could live at open-sea sanctuaries, if they can not be returned to the wild.…

George Millay, Milt Shedd, Ken Norris and David DeMott originally founded the SeaWorld we know today in the late 1950’s to early 1960’s. It was originally a subsidiary of Busch Gardens, housing a bird sanctuary, and eventually it turned into a water park. Its founders, however, had plans for the facility. They envisioned an underwater restaurant that would allow guests to look into a large pool and see marine animals close up but that idea soon expanded when Ted Griffin, sold Shamu to SeaWorld in 1965. According SeaWorld veteran trainer John Hardgrove, their original vision “required the park to cultivate the visitors’ curiosity about and concern for the animal life of the oceans - a perfect balance of environmentalism and capitalism (29).”…

In the National Geographic interview written by Simon Worrall, “Former Trainer Slams SeaWorld for Cruel Treatment of Orcas," author and former SeaWorld trainer John Hargrove sheds light on the mistreatment of the killer whales. Hargrove also talks about his book, Beneath the Surface: Killer Whales, SeaWorld, and the Truth Beyond Blackfish, where he shares anecdotes from his life as a trainer and what led him on his journey to orca advocacy. The interview is also full of Mr. Hargrove’s opinions on how the killer whale shows at SeaWorld are mentally and physically harmful to the orcas. Although Hargrove has a solid thesis, his argument is weak because none of his statements are based on fact, merely opinions or personal experiences.…
