Many American families believe that SeaWorld is the best family vacation spot with its many parks all over the country. A typical visit to SeaWorld includes petting dolphins, visiting the aquarium, and being splashed by a majestic Orca. While SeaWorld may seem family-friendly, it definitely is not animal friendly. The tourist attraction, also known as SeaWorld, tortures its animals by ripping them from their homes and families, placing them in pools that might as well be bathtubs. Although families enjoy taking a trip to SeaWorld, they would feel a lot differently if they knew about the constant pain and torture inflicted on SeaWorld’s animals. Due to the living conditions, and mental health of their orcas, SeaWorld should be shut down.

Orcas endure so much emotional and physical trauma, that they chew on bars to escape. This says a lot about their living conditions without having to say anything at all. The Orcas end up breaking their teeth and have to go through a gruesome procedure without anesthesia to fix it. Seaworld is located in very hot places like Texas and Florida, so imagine being outside in the hot blazing sun day in and day out. Their Tanks are so shallow that they develop these painful and blistering sunburns. Does SeaWorld treat them? Of course not. On February 21, 1991 SeaWorld trainer Keltie Byrne a SeaWorld trainer tripped into a pool holding ,three Orcas at the time, one of them being Tilikum, the largest orca held in captivity. Byrne was dragged to the bottom of the pool and subsequently drowned. In another incident, another trainer was killed in a barbaric attack. The trainer, Dawn Brancheau was scalped and dismembered. She broke several bones before she drowned to her death. Those were just a couple of unfortunate attacks that served as a result of the forced confinement, anger, and emotional stress. All of these calamitous incidents could easily have been avoided if these animals were kept in their rightful homes, the wild. Which brings me to my next point. In the wild orcas have a much longer life expectancy than of those kept in captivity. In the wild orcas have a life expectancy of about 60 to 70 years. SeaWorld has all of their guest thinking they can live up to 10 years, which isn’t wrong if SeaWorld orcas were the only Orcas in the whole world. Their lack of a long lifespan is due to the fact trainers only give them food when they perform tricks
