I chose this topic for my poster as not only is it a current social injustice problem, but also a serious one. I feel the need to stand up for the animals of SeaWorld, as they have no voice of their own. All animals that can not live without humanity should be able to live as normal as possible. For example, the animals at SeaWorld could live at open-sea sanctuaries, if they can not be returned to the wild.…

The news of SeaWorld 's mistreatment towards its star marine animals raised suspicion in whether or not SeaWorld 's actions were humane and necessary. The entertainment that the orca whales have brought to the theme parks crowds have quickly changed from fascination to pure hatred. Blackfish allowed for the uneducated peoples that visit the park to become aware of what was occurring behind the scenes. The documentary release wrecked havoc on SeaWorld’s attendance and profit, causing the park to question what to do next. SeaWorld Entertainment Inc is a publicly traded company that operates as a family oriented theme park. While establishing 11 marine-life theme parks, SeaWorld has created a well known brand name throughout the United States. As we take a look and examine this company, we will analyze the stock market and calculate certain ratios to see how well or poorly SeaWorld has been doing the past years while also comparing the company with other related industries. Ideally, we would compare SeaWorld to other zoological establishments or aquariums but they are mostly nonprofit or not publicly traded so we can not compare. However, Yahoo Finance says they are comparable to Six Flags, so we used Six Flags.…

George Millay, Milt Shedd, Ken Norris and David DeMott originally founded the SeaWorld we know today in the late 1950’s to early 1960’s. It was originally a subsidiary of Busch Gardens, housing a bird sanctuary, and eventually it turned into a water park. Its founders, however, had plans for the facility. They envisioned an underwater restaurant that would allow guests to look into a large pool and see marine animals close up but that idea soon expanded when Ted Griffin, sold Shamu to SeaWorld in 1965. According SeaWorld veteran trainer John Hardgrove, their original vision “required the park to cultivate the visitors’ curiosity about and concern for the animal life of the oceans - a perfect balance of environmentalism and capitalism (29).”…
