When the film ‘Blackfish’ was released in 2013, individuals became more aware to the conditions in which these beautiful sea creatures lived. I, of course, am talking about the Orca. When I went to Sea World back in 2002, the company were doing well, keeping their secrets at bay. Many weren’t so conscious of the undergoing abuse. Many were oblivious to the fact that such cruelty could happen at the hands of such a well-known corporation. Unfortunately I have to admit that I watched the show. I watched the show, and was simply amazed at the creature and the tricks it could …show more content…
This sequel could follow the simple storyline of a T-Rex that’s escaped and on a rampage. However, this films originality comes from scientist Dr Henry Wong’s new dinosaur, the Indominous Rex. The tension in the film builds when the workers start to notice signs that the terrifying dinosaur is gradually becoming more and more intelligent, too intelligent for the humans. Inevitably the dinosaur escapes and the chaos begins. Trevorrow delivered in the fight scenes as the end scene is the epitome of epic. Picture this, a dinosaur on a dinosaur fighting another dinosaur. What more could you ask for? Although these end scenes are brilliant to watch they are also hard to watch as the tension is built up perfectly, leaving you unable to stop

The propaganda piece Blackfish tried to turn it’s audience against the idea of whales held in captivity, yet the film was ineffective because it utilized emotional appeal, inappropriate diction, and contained many logical fallacies thus alienating those that viewed the piece. Blackfish, commissioned by CNN Films and directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, is a response to the, amongst other things, taking whales from the wild, separating whales from their mothers, and keeping them in a miniscule enclosures, and perhaps most recently the death of SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau. What Blackfish aims to accomplish is emotionally connecting with it’s audience, more likely than not being those who do not know much about orca whales in captivity. Where…

The documentary Blackfish brings to the public attention the aggressive behaviors displayed by killer whales in captivity. In particular, they focus on an orca by the name of Tilikum held in captivity, by Sealand and later SeaWorld, for close to three decades. Tilikum has caused the death of three people, during his time in captivity--- the most recent being that of Dawn Brancheau, an expert trainer for SeaWorld Orlando. Dawn’s death has sparked increased controversy for the popular entertainment park, most of it revolves around the conditions that the orcas live in.…

SeaWorld has made several online statements about the inaccuracy of Blackfish. The most impressive of these statements was a 32-page document outlining many of Blackfish’s inaccuracies with cited evidence. For example, SeaWorld points out how most of the “SeaWorld trainers” interviewed in the film never worked with Tilikum, and how the film uses outdated information and footage to ignore SeaWorld’s modern facilities and protocol. News outlets still unfairly consider SeaWorld a target anyway, because Blackfish appeals to emotion while SeaWorld fights back with facts. Blackfish in news articles is often framed as if the film’s producers are underdogs stepping up against the soulless corporate entity that is SeaWorld.…

With the documentary there also came lots of questions as to if everything seems to be correct and every fact can be backed up with specific evidence to prove that SeaWorld is in fact engaging with their whales the way that Blackfish states. One of the top questions that has remained unanswered is if SeaWorld says that things in Blackfish documentary were false and they used fallacies then why did SeaWorld not offer to give an interview and declined them when they offered? This is something that remains unanswered and so does every other statement stated by these top trainers that used to work at SeaWorld. Another thing that is not clear to the audience of Blackfish is why are there no recent SeaWorld trainers that are currently working with these orcas’ that were interviewed? Even though everyone that was interviewed in Blakfish were ex- orca trainers they still had more than just the facts, they gave specific evidence to back up any claims towards…

In Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s film, Blackfish (2013), Cowperthwaite captures the psychological torture killer whales, specifically Tilikum and Kasatka, face at Sea World after being brutally separated from their families. The film takes us through the journey of captured killer whales becoming mentally unstable and being used for entertainment purposes. This film displays archival footage and interviews with former trainers who had close experiences with killer whales at Sea World. The attacks at Sea World stem from the whales’ separation from their families, the trainer’s demand for the whales to do tricks in solitary confinement, and the punishment done to the whales when their tricks are not properly executed. All major accounts of killer whale attacks on trainers develop through the distress of the whales outside of their natural habitat.…

I watched the documentary Blackfish written by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and Eli B. Despres for the second time last week. The documentary is about Tilikum, an orca that killed three people at SeaWorld. The directors wanted to build a case against using wild animals for commercial value and against keeping wild animals in captivity. The first time I watched the film was shortly after it came out in 2013. I was sitting in my family room with my two friends who had seen it before and had strong opinions that keeping animals in captivity is wrong, no matter what the circumstances.…

“The film, however, does blame Ms. Brancheau, and it accomplishes this through former trainers with little or no relevant experience” (TRUTH ABOUT BLACKFISH). By switching the story many times after the witnesses came out with the truth shows they will say anything to make SeaWorld a good place. An employee tells the audience that “twenty five percent of whales has a fin that turns over like that as they get older” but in fact” one percent of orcas have dorsal fins” says an orca researcher (Blackfish). As the employee feeds the audience false facts that is used to protect SeaWorld from being known as a bad place, they are made to believe this is true because it comes from an orca expert, as so they think. Manipulating them to believe…
