As exciting it is to experience upscale living in Seattle’s urban core, it is also exhilarating to live in the midst of the region’s natural beauty. With stunning mountain ranges, freshwater lakes and evergreen forests, Seattle puts every community within minutes of every kind of ecology. For outsiders, Seattle often evokes images of rainy days, fleece jackets and streets lined with coffee houses. While Seattleites certainly enjoy their lattes, the city actually gets less annual precipitation than New York and Boston. Even during overcast days, Seattle remains one of the most livable places in the U.S. with plenty to do both indoors and out.

In addition to its azure waters and green forests, the city also enjoys snow-capped mountains on two sides: the Olympic Mountains to the west and the Cascades to the east. With so many nearby opportunities for hiking, climbing, skiing and watersports, it's no surprise that Seattle is not only ranked as one the most livable cities in the U.S., but also one its healthiest.

The complexity of urban environments is something that I have become familiar with through my time spent working, volunteering and studying in Dorchester, MA – a financially diverse urban borough of greater Boston. Attending UMass Boston while living at home did not provide me enough opportunity to experience the city living. I always drove to campus since public transportation was not feasible. But volunteering at MGH in Downtown Boston and at Codman Square Health Center in Dorchester has prepared me for city challenges like travelling in a city using the crowded local subway and buses while being courteous to fellow passengers, and meeting the time schedules. Learning to travel light and staying vigilant helps me to reach my destination easily…

New developments and businesses, large corporations, and private institutions are what gentrifying neighborhoods attract. For these reasons, housing demand goes up in the area. This denotes that affordable housing would be hard to achieve since property value rises. Richard Florida explains in his article, “This Is What Happens After A Neighborhood Gets Gentrified,” how local residents “may feel pressured to move to more affordable locations,” (Florida 9). Usually, these businesses will bring in some conveniences such as beautified environment, more security, and money to the community, but they will also drive away the neighborhood’s local inhabitants.…

Throughout my internship at the Co/Max Holding & Realty Inc., I was involved in various tasks as my supervisor provided multiple assignments with specific deadlines. As an intern in the real estate industry, I was responsible for accomplishing some general duties in order to make it easier for the agents to operate their daily schedules smoothly. I prepared market analyses, kept records, while updating and maintaining the computers’ software. In addition, I would assist the agents in transaction coordination as well as the process of creating events such as open houses. In most cases, I would receive emails, run errands, and stay close by to assist when needed.…
