Sears Collection Scandal

This memo is a communication strategy for Mr. Arthur Martinez, Chief Executive Office at Sears, Roebuck Company a plan of action dealing with the collection scandal. I Nekitta Cannon Vice President of Communication have been asked by the company to provide advice on the issue being addressed.
Sears Roebuck Company known to many as Sears is an American department store chain founded by Richard Warren Sears and Alvah Curtis Roebuck in the late 1800s. Richard Sears published an 80-page mail-order catalog focused on farmers at the time leading the mail-order company to became the first retail store open in 1925, being the largest retail store until 1989. The company was successful throughout the years and began to see the effect of completion in the early 90s.

I’m aware that the collection scandal is the root of this case and problem within the company. It is known that Sears, Roebuck Company has been finding to have illegal collection practices of bad debt on a court approved bankruptcies. Sears attorneys and credit employees, according to a bankruptcy judge in Boston, had for years been dunning delinquent credit card holders who had filed for and had been granted bankruptcy protection (O'Rourke, 2013).

The company offered Latanowich to pay $28 a month on his account without filing within the courts to ensure he was able to pay this debt without hardship and following all legal actions. Francis Latanowich letter to the courts has caused the case of Collection Scandal at Sears, due to the fact that Latanowich had successfully gone through bankruptcy which left him without any debt being owed. Sears is being accused of using unenforceable agreements to collect debts that legally no longer exist (O'Rourke, 2013). I know this is a major setback for you Mr. Martinez with the effects of you striving to make this company great
