Seamus Descriptive Writing

A thick layer of sweat cascades from Seamus’ distressed face, as he struggles with Rey over his shoulder. Bumping into people and obstacles alike, Seamus moves with surprising haste considering the encumbrance. Caleb in tow, the three of them hurtle down Bagger's Alley. Stopping at a low khaki tent, Seamus ducks through bright door beads, Rey still on his shoulder.

“Meridia git’ your stuff out, Seamus is back in town!” Seamus gasps for air.

The weathered face of an old woman quickly darts out of a second flap at the back of the tent. “Seamus!” She says excitedly, but her face quickly grows worried as she sees Rey. “Who’s this you’ve brought me? A lover?”

“Outlander, actually.” Caleb corrects her as Seamus gently sets Rey down on a fur

Puffing out clouds of fragrant smoke, Caleb stares at the lights above their heads.

Seamus on the other hand sits in the sand, sulking and staring emptily into the sand. With a slight tremble, tears fall from his eyes, wetting the sand beneath him, followed by a meaty fist. Standing up, a very disgruntled Seamus walks off into the night leaving kicked over tent posts and torn banners in his wake. He stalks off, walking brutishly through the cramped street and making his way to the pub.

Inside the pub was a congested room that smelt of booze and feet. Men with prostitutes on their laps drank and laughed without a care. Seamus looked with a red haze for a very specific face; a man named Simon who misfortuned him back when they were teens.

“SIMON!” Seamus calls out savagely. Simon whirls, shocked to see the long forgotten face of the kid he picked on almost 20 years ago towering over him.

Predicting a fight, Simon reaches to his belt and produces a curved knife. Raising the knife to Seamus, he warns “Back off or y’all git cut you hear?” Simon's hands shake as Seamus advances. “Look, look- I'm sorry about the taunts, I was just a dumb kid.” Seamus wasn't listening. “Aye I’ve got money if that's what’yer after,

Tim O’Brien’s writing style represents his own unique approach to writing, where he starts with a short sentence, then levitates towards long run-on sentences, before going back to short sentences. He repeats this form of writing several times throughout the passage. O’Brien might be using this technique as a way to evoke, emphasize, and breakup the different settings, ideas, and thoughts he had at the moment. Firstly, he began by explaining the setting, adding a comma, and then relaying his behaviour of being unable to sleep. Then, he adds another comma and ends the sentence with what he was thinking at the time.…

Jane Smiley’s A Thousand Acres presents the dimensional characterization of Larry, Ginny, and Rose Cook (Brauner 664; Schiff 13 of 16), the contentious themes involving feminism and the deceptive appearance of the idealized “American Dream” (Carden 193); and the symbolically significant setting of a rural Iowa county during the presidency of Jimmy Carter ( Smiley 174 ; Holman “Setting” 120)—all of which serves to relate the impact of industry upon families living in America during such time (Smiley, 115). Smiley’s “parodic recasting of Lear” (Strehle 16 of 16) is evident as her “compelling” (Brauner 666) modernization of Shakespeare’s King Lear sufficiently depicts the evolution of societal representations of women (Schiff 12 of 16; Novy 362). Smiley employed characterization within the character of Larry as his actions, speech, and social standing enabled the reader to fully comprehends the depth of his character.…

Billy Collins was an American writer whose phenomenally open verse—portrayed by plain dialect, delicate silliness, and a ready thankfulness for the everyday—made him a standout amongst the most well-known artists in the United States. Collins grew up predominantly in Queens, New York. He composed his first lyric at age 12 and later joined his secondary school artistic magazine. In 1963 Collins got a B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts, and he went ahead to procure a doctorate in Romantic verse from the University of California, Riverside, in 1971. That year he likewise started a long vocation as an educator of English at Lehman College, Bronx, New York.…

William Golding’s Lord of the Flies writes about the ideas of people’s personalities and the evil within the human heart. Set within an island, a group of young boys set out to survive and be rescued; however, it is later seen how the boys end up being wild and savage when they’re left without adult supervision. Golding depicts Simon as a scapegoat whose exceptional persona on an island of chaos and anarchy makes him a target for the stranded boys’ hatred/evil. Starting early on in the novel, Simon shows a caring, generous personality, which becomes a stigma that he is “unique” in comparison to the other boys. Even though the norm for the biguns on the beach was to ignore or not help the littluns; Simon was different in that, “Simon found…
