Seal Sentences Christ to Die...in a Musical

He may have been "Kissed by a Rose" and even had the love of supermodel Heidi Klum, but the Grammy award-winning artist, Seal, is now going one step beyond. He is portraying the Roman leader who sentenced Jesus Christ to die.

During a two-hour live musical performance of "The Passion", Seal will take on the role of Pontius Pilate. Much like Pilate, Seal admits that he finds himself skeptical of religion and "constantly striving to connect with his spirit." He told the Huffington Post that while he may not be a "spiritual person", he does try to "do as much [connecting] as possible, because when I do that, when I feel that I’m connecting with my spirit, I feel more clarity. I feel better positioned to make good decisions.”

He said that he has many devout friends and finds religion to be a "wonderful thing". Of his religious friends, he says, "It never ceases to amaze me how solid they are. And not only solid, but solid in times of adversity, and how connected they are as a family. And I attribute that to their religious faith.”

Part of Seal's skepticism comes from the many negative ways that religion is used to promote agendas. “It’s when it’s misused as a form of control and people sort of take it to extremes and bastardize religion, that’s when it kind of gets out of control and that is probably why you are seeing a shifting in the landscape of non-believers," he said.

According to NPR, Seal was raised in a religious Church of England school when he was young and his parents were religious but not overly so. He believes that God is a divine energy. "You know, I believe in God, I believe that there is a God. I don't necessarily think he's a grey-haired man with a beard, but I think of God as more of an energy, a divine

Throughout this course, I was exposed to materials that discussed the magnitude of religion, the impact it had on society, and the multiple groups that were formed from other groups. Yet in all of these information that was presented in the book, there was one dominate theme that protruded out. The fact of the matter is people were easily influenced to join religious groups, especially the ones that had very strict rules to follow and limited a person freedom.…

Pi throughout his entire journey never lost faith in the Lord, and still knew someone was out there with him, even if it’s not a physical human being. One of Pi’s survival instincts was to keep his mind busy and not think about death. Pi had to make himself plans to stop him from thinking, one of which is that made himself a schedule for every day. He even goes so far to say that our worldview is what defines the world religion. When I, for example, think of “religion” as a whole, I think of bending on your knees praying, worshiping a sacred text, and a big God in the sky that has a long white beard and a white robe. I also tend to see religion and the religious as sheep who follow others simply because they promise salvation, without agency to make…

There are many types of religions in the world, all in which different cultures believe in. It is one thing to be raised and taught to believe in a “God” but it is an other thing when that “God” is proven real. Many people believe in a “higher power” but do not want to classify that “higher power” so that it does not change their lifestyle or their behaviour. Humans like to be comfortable in their own skin, with their own beliefs, therefore, they will try and convince themselves in what they believe is real for their own comfort. In that case, couldn 't that be very scary if they are wrong?…

“Medea explores the tension between reason and passion”. Discuss It is within the very nature of humans to isolate the polarised forces of reason and passion, yet within his Greek tragedy Medea, Euripides demonstrates the “fatal results” of possessing a predisposition for either frame of mind. Indeed, the antagonistic relationship between Medea and society best contextualises the gripping antithesis between maintaining an acceptable outward demeanour and laying bare our inner impulses respectively, however, at its core, this rupture is also self evident on an intrapersonal level as observed in Medea’s character. In presenting the consequences of the oppressive culture of Greek society, as well as the extent of destruction entailed with Medea’s…
