Orca whales that were captured and delivered to their lifelong home in SeaWorld amusement parks went from swimming up to 100 miles a day to being put in tanks that are much too small for them. The average size of an orca whale can reach up to 20-26 feet long and can weigh as much as 22,000 pounds. The size of the orca whales in comparison to the tanks they live in at SeaWorld are said to be in comparison to a “bathtub.” According to an anti-SeaWorld website, “An orca at SeaWorld would have to swim the circumference …show more content…
This is far from the truth, orca whales can live up to 70-80 years and average at about 50. In captivity orca whales are lucky to live past their 20’s. The majority of people who attend the amusement parks have little interest in learning about the animals in the park, but SeaWorld uses many fallacies when speaking about the orca whales to those who are actually interested in being educated about the fascinating animals. As noted by SeaWorld, “On August 13th the parks welcomed 600,000 less visitors.” Although they say the lowering of prices and lack of attendance is due to weather and other issues, it is clear to most, that the awareness of the wrong doing at SeaWorld is the true reason behind the drop in SeaWorld business. On a brighter note of change presented by the action.sumofus.org, “SeaWorld just got busted by a US government agency for violating the Animal Welfare Act—and we may have a rare chance to end its animal cruelty for good.” With many petitions and organizations working towards freeing captive orca whales it is only a matter of time before the whales can be released back into the
