Amazing World of Sea Lions The endangered animal that I picked was the Sea Lion. The reason I picked the Sea Lion is because they are one of my favorite animals, they’re adorable, and I want to see why they are endangered. As I was researching the Sea Lion I noticed that the California Sea Lion was the most common Sea Lion out of all the different species of them. The Sea Lions population is depleting quickly, mainly due to human interaction. Sea Lions have been climbing on boats of fishermen and they are causing them to sink. The fishermen try to prevent that they put up barbed wire as the barrier, but that has been severely injuring the Sea Lions. The biggest threats to the Sea Lion is the Killer Whale and the Orcha. Between the boats, all the predators, and them just passing away because it was time, to many of them of going away and there is not that many left. Although Sea Lions don’t look like they’re fit, they are actually extremely fit. Their front flippers are enough to carry it’s whole body and swim fast. They are often seen jumping up out of the water, mostly to speed up their swimming. Also, they have been seen “surfing” breaking waves. But they float on water with a group of other Sea Lions. But some get on boats and attack Kayakers’ for their fish. As you know there is many kinds of Sea Lions. The range of the colors of Sea Lions is a really dark chocolate brown to a pearly white. The California Sea Lions is one of the darkest Sea Lions although, it depends on how old and mature they are. But some have fur and some do not, it all depends on what kind of species they are. A adult male Sea Lion usually is around 8 feet long and weighs around 600 pounds. A bony crest crowns the male. A female Sea Lion is about 6 feet and usually weighs about a third of her mates weight. That usually weighs around 200
